It was in mid-late April. I was there all three years. I wonder if this isn't the successor, as I've seen through my Mazda6 sources...

If it was within 4 - 6 hours driving (From Columbus Ohio) I would go to the event. I went to the RR twice and loved hearing the Adkins discussions and heard the leather seat cover installation was very cool (Was that Leather Seats.com??). I think it would be cool to pull together a map with all the folks wanting to attend and center the event as close to the middle as possible (With a track that can hold the event). If you need any help I will throw my name into the hat (Being an IT Guy might be helpful). I am also just about ready to dust off the FD for another season (April 1st) and think a Mid to late May to early June would be a great date.

Suggestions
Survey:
1.) Determine the best location
2.) Determine the best date(s)
3.) If it was located in XXXXX would you attend (Keep the location not to crazy as people are spending most of their cash for new parts for the RX7 (Of course)
People like Jason/Xavier from the RX7 store and others like (Bonsai) would be great if they could toss in something fun (Good PR and does not hurt the bottom line too much)

hey i am bumping this.

Rotary Rev was by far the most fun event I have attended. The classes, the driving, the racing...I have not been to an event since then that had all of those things.
Here's a vid the STL peeps took driving out to the first one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhDQwwsPY7g

I wouldn't drive out, but I would possibly fly out and get some sort of mazda vehicle to show support.

Is anyone still serious about getting this event going again? What would we be looking at now, a 2010 or 2011 event?

Serious? Yes. Time? Heh. $$$ to put up to get it going? Bigger heh. As Aaron said, he can't do it alone. He has a plan, but it's a matter of getting certain things in place first. Since I guess I started this thing, I need to get off my **** and start following up. I will make it a point to get back in touch with him and see what he thinks at this point.

I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can. I'm just not in a position to invest.

Can we atleast decide on a location and time of year? Preferably when it's not snowing like last time?

Yes, weather killed the event more than anything else. It has to be held at a better time of the year.

I say yes and no to that.

I agree in that a small handfull of people can't do as large of an event as I envision this being alone, so yes, we need help from a good size group. No in that people showing up generates a little buzz and in this community, word of mouth is as good as gold.

I think there's a little too much, well, they're not showing up, so I'm not going to go either. And that's too bad.

But yeah, weather was somewhat a fluke. Those who went the first year know how well the weather worked for us. The average for that time of year is mid-high 60s and 4" precip for the month.

I went the last year in my RX-8 all the way from Massachusetts. I had fun overall, but it was more from the fun of the road trip then the event. The weather killed it for me. Also being stone dead asleep at 2-3am in my hotel room with my wife one night, and having the cops beating on our door didn't help either. I have no idea why they were called to our room as we were asleep at 10pm after a long *** two day drive, and weren't being loud as the cops said we were.

I might go if it were held again, but no way if it was in April again. I thought the weather wouldn't be an issue, yet it was snowing on that Saturday, and almost my whole ride through Ohio on Sunday was snowing as well. Who would have thought that the New England area weather in April in would be better? Hell I think there were tornado sightings in the Indy area Friday on our way in from the East. I was on summer tires in the RX-8 as well. The auto-X was fun though!!! Not worth the long trip, but fun anyway.

I'd say skip INDY, or atleast the complex. If I remember correctly, we got stuck with the crummy weather because that's the only time they had available.

Hell, Sevenstock is a huge event without a track. Why can't this be done the same? Atleast to get it started.

Or, hold it the same weekend as an already existing track event.

I, and im sure many others would be much more willing to do an event like this at a track. Id rather go to an event to enjoy my car than to just stand around and talk about it...I can do that almost anytime.

Some other options would be Putnam Park (about 45 mins from Indy) http://www.putnampark.com/ or Prarie Hills (about 1 hr from Chicago / 2 hr from Indy) http://www.prairiehillsmc.com/

The real question, DKJ, would you be joining the festivities if it was held somewhere around here?

I went to the last one as well. It needs to be held at a warmer period of time during the year. If that means move to a different location, by all means, that is a better decision.

IIRC PHMC hasn't even broken ground yet. Needless to say the ecomony has somewhat put a damper in said plans.

My goal when I started this thread was to hopefully garner interest in something that involved the full gamut of driving events...track, strip, auto-x. In my past conversations with Aaron, he mentioned starting off a little smaller to regain interest in the event. And I somewhat agree. The cost to rent a track with insurance, personnel, etc and the risk of not being able to cover it is pretty high.

I was all for having it in another location. Not to mention the new ownership at IRP (I'll still call it that) wasn't all that great from what I've heard. Though, being one of the only locations that I'm aware of that can host all three types of things on the same campus make it very attractive for such an event. Not to mention the room to spare for everything else. Hell, if Autobahn can do it, and we can somehow piggyback on something at Rt 66 then I'm for it too. The overall goal obviously is to make it a Midwest event. Whether that's at Gateway in St Louis, MAM, or where ever...I don't think that matters so much. As far as distance for people, someone's going to have to drive somewhere. Can't please everyone right?

As far as timing, at this point, realistically, 2011 would be the earliest to book and plan something. I would almost guarantee that locations are pretty filled up for 2010.

I know a place that has lots of tracks and is warm (no snow) all year long.

Another option to IRP might be Bluegrass Motorsports Park. It is a new place just south of Cincinatti that has a road course and was supposed to have large lots intended for autocross and show events. You lose the drag racing there, though. At least I don't believe they have a drag pad. Anyway, here is their website:

Keith, I know what you are thinking!! Texas!!

Actually, Dallas/Ft. Worth is probably one of the best place to host anything. We have two 1/4 mile track, five 1/8 miles track and three road courses all within 50 miles away not to mentioned plenty of night life afterward. Denver is another option but we all might have a hard time breathing at 6000ft altitude.
