I don't post much, I'm a bit of a lurker, but here goes.

I currently own an '04 SRT-4. For a reliable daily driver, it's pretty darn quick. I'm a pretty quiet person most of the time, so i guess the snapping and popping exhaust, and the 'pssht' is just my way of exercising the obnoxious side of my personality. As far as turbo dodge owners go, I can speak first hand about the Toronto area guys. They are a great bunch of people that first met on SRTforums.com. We have meets once a week when the snow's gone, go racing together, and generally lend each other a hand whenever someone needs it.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but I haven't met very many ******* SRT4 owners. The guys I know talk all the time, loan garage space, the mechanics in the club give up some evenings and weekends to pitch in for installation days. We share tools, parts, and sometimes even slicks when we go for race day. Our Canadian Nats meet in Cayuga at TMP was a great weekend. Everyone getting together for a couple of days of racing, and a night of camping out and partying at the track. I'd say it's a pretty good group.

It could also be that the price point of these cars was inflated in Canada, and insurance is ridiculous, so a lot of the owners tend to be a fair bit older, and somewhat more mature, at least some of the time. There isn't this whole F&F ****-talking "my car-***** is bigger than yours" crap to deal with either. Just a tightly knit community probably not unlike a lot of the local RX7 clubs around. Car guys are all the same, at least the guys that understand what being a 'car guy' is. The rest just use their cars to accessorize, like paris hilton's doggy-in-a-purse, or adopted 3rd world kids for movie stars. Old turbo dodge's are cool. I love RX7's. Probably will bring one up from the US in the next year or so as a project car. I'll still have a soft spot for SRT4's though, just because it was my first fun car.

oh, and the 'just a neon' jokes... it's not really the same as a regular neon. It shares the same chassis, but the suspension is different, so is the engine & drivetrain. It's actually pretty overbuilt and robust. Bolt-ons have returned mid 400hp numbers with no internal mods, just turbo, and fueling. intake, exhaust. I don't think that's too bad for 'just a neon'

usually the people that hate on them have never driven one. I'm going to assume that's the case. They may not be a handling beast like an rx7, but they're still lots of fun.

Have a nice day!

i got onto the turbo dodge boards and felt as if i had stumbled into internet car forum heaven... there were virtually no ********, there were no "dont do that because THIS is the RIGHT way to do it" type posts regarding modifications, there was comman brand love for turbo chryslers of course, but all makes and models were discussed honestly with very little fanboyism attached

i have years and years of experience with this and what it comes down to sadly is that the chryslers are basically ugly cars, so they only attract the true enthusiats, whereas dsms and 7's and civics and so on have the mainstream image, so every retard with an internet connection and an opinion decides they are an expert and starts posting.

i cant say that i think that that is a total bad thing, because my car feeds on that type of persons ego (and wallet)... and there are plenty of them... but it is a shame that real intellegent discussion is so hard to come by on damn near all of the mainstream car boards.

i mentoned above that my red omni got hit by a drunk while parked, well, the next day people on the turbo chrysler forums started collecting money on their own, and in 2 days i received a paypal deposit of almost 900$, a bunch of letters in the mail, people were mailing me parts left and right, i was offered garage space by people id never met before... all because the td scene is a bit older, a shitload wiser, and most of them are always open to reconsidering their opinion when new info comes around

if that would have happened to my dsm, or to a 7, i would have got some sympathetic posts and 15 ******** telling me i was stupid for leaving it on the street

but again... i built my car specifically to feed on that type of person. most anyone that has built their 7, or their dsm, or their f body to a level of relative performance comprable to my omni is going to appriciate the car for what it is, not dog on it for what it isnt. its only the fakers with a 900hp mouth that talk this kind of ignorant ****... and thats fine, i embrace it, so far i have not lost a race in the omni against someone that couldnt understand that i *like* the fact that it us unconventional looking, i dont care that the 20 year old paint is peeling, i didnt build the ******* thing to have leather heated seats, and the fact that it is a "low tech" american car doesnt bother me... and i doubt that is ever going to change

my car is the original sport compact, its the original turbo hatch, its the original pocket rocket, and the fact that most of the import scene today has their heads so far up their 300$ carbon fiber intake pipes that they dont appreciate the car that started it all is kind of sad, but oh well.

my intercooler pipes were free because i cut them out of a wrecked mustang's exhaust. my manual boost controller cost 5$. i hand built and designed the entire electrical system on the car. the intercooler was 40$ out of a diesel box truck, and the thing starts every day, i drive it to the track and hot lap it on pump gas, and then drive it home.

sigh

heres the black car 2 or 3 days after i built it racing my buddies 99 turbo si that runs mid 13's. there was still a little bit of meat left on my drag radials for this run.

I think I remember reading about that a while back. While the car isn't the best looker, I think it's a cool car. Good luck with everything.

I have owned in the past 3 years a restored fiero, swapped civics, an 04 SRT-4, a 06 WRX, and now my 93 RX7. So I have a pretty varied background when it comes to cars... And realized that ******** drive every make of car! Every car "scene" has good owners and bad (Some more than others). Most of you guys that hate the SRT-4 have never driven one; it is a great car and I loved it while I owned it. It wasn't the best looking car, but it has a great drivetrain and handles pretty well for a FWD car (much better than my WRX). When it first came out there were some great owners out there and the community was one of the best. Just like squealy said a tight knit group of "car guys"! But once those owners moved on to other cars and these 16 year old kids started picking them up cheap the community went downhill... I can understand hating the owners, but don't hate the car too just because of them!

Oh and dumpsterdriver thumbs up on a great sleeper!

I beg to differ. The EVO motor and chassis has been in development for 15 years.

this thread is about the owners not the car, that being said if you roll up to any car meet in a civic everybody will hate on you.... so what will you do, you wont talk to anybody since you know everybody will just hate on your ****. civic drivers take more **** than any other car group i know, thats cuz alot of them steal, cheat and are uneducated about their cars and all other cars.... likwise mustang drivers, srt driver, and rx7 drivers...
the best car group i have ever been apart of were aircooled VWs, but they are also some of the most purist people in the world, but if someone hears that you had a aircooled vw they will come and talk to about it and all of the ones they have had. i have had conversations with old ladies in thier 70's about volkswagens.... try to find a nicer, bigger, and passionate group of car owners and i will mail you a cookie

my cars
2000 daewoo 1600cc
73 vw bug 1600cc
62 vw bug 1300cc
86 t2 swapped gsl 1300cc

An NA FC did and it beat a Porcshe 914.

Even watercooled VWs have a nice scene, well at least the older ones. MK1 and MK2 VW owners are great.

And RX-7 owners get much MUCH more **** than Honda owners in louisville. All RX-7s are associated with constantly breaking and blowing the engines every 3000 miles. Mostly due to Jacob Cartmill though, lol.

If it counts, i think ur car looks sick and have always loved those types of body styles. Personally i would love to have a AWD 323 turbo TSI which looks similar. My brother also was looking at a dodge omni but couldent find one in good condition, so he bought a scirraco instead.
