A Tie..............

Last night I was on the way home from work and I pulled up to a light. Next to me was a Square style Jetta with a VR6 the light turned green and he took off. Not to be outdone i nailed it and cought up to him by the next light. There is about a mile between lights so i kenw that this would be a nice place for a little race. I reved it a little to get his attention so he would know I wanted to go. I watched toe cross light so i had a heads up for the green. And I nailed it, I took him in first by about a half a car length made a nice shift at about 6900rpm's and kept pace with him all through second again shifting at about 6900rpm's. In third he started creeping up on my passenger side door now im doing almost 80 or so when i hit 4th gear and he is still creeping up as i wind through the 4th gear his headlights are even with my passnge side mirror and the next light is comming up soon, I kept it in 4th all the way to the buzzer (maybe a little past ) and we flew through the light with me about 2 inches ahead of him. I call it a tie because he was catching up and given another 100 feet he would have caught me.

I have VW's

You have... or you hate?

I love VW's, so long as it's not a Corrado... *shudder*

Nothing warms my heart like a 16v scirrocco, or a VR6 paired to a manual.

What about a '68 Beetle with a Porsche 6 cylinder swap?

Oh, nice race.

haha, that's hilarious. My buddy's are mostly VW guys and there are several Corrado's in the mix. Sweet ride IMO. Sucks that it's FWD though...

Only VW's I truly enjoy are well-done Rabbits and VR Corrado's.

No they're not, wait 12,000 miles. I've OWNED one.

That supercharger is going to explode and it's going to cost a fortune to fix it.

The entire electrical system will need to be replaced sub 30 thousand, guaranteed.

They're problem cars, period. I would not own another for love nor money.

Go to any VW enthusiast forum, they've got the rep as being the worst car VW has put out. They're just trash. Hate 'em.

Hmm... You must be talking about the '89 build-date G60's?

The VR's are the one of the most solid european motors ever made IMO. On the other hand the G-ladder superchargers bolted onto 1.8 8v G60 motors are straight garbage. Honestly (lol) I wouldn't even consider the G60 Corrado's to BE Corrado's.

I guess I can only speak from my second-hand experience. I've got a buddy who's owned a mint (show winning) SLC Corrado that has had virtually no problems in the 5 years he's owned it. But like any car, it's really the owner that sets the tone regarding reliability etc.

A couple quick pics that do no justice:

Even the VR6's have wiring problems.

I've owned a lot of cars, and several VW's. I expect a VW to take all the punishment I can give it, as long as I'm taking perfect care of the engine.

I ride my cars HARD... really hard, but I make sure the internals get everything they need.

Corrado is not up to VW snuff... period. I'd honestly MUCH rather have a VR6 5 speed Passat... those are sexy, and the VW Passat wagons... OMFG, I would kill a hobo for the priveledge of owning a 5 speed VR6 Passat wagon.

But seriously, ask any VW guru. They're the red headed bastard child of the family. Nobody wants to admit its theirs...

I wouldn't be proud of owning one, and am in fact ashamed I fell for the cars good looks. Scirrocco = 20x better.

How about a detailed example of these "wiring problems" you speak of, your example is a little is a little too generic.

Hey that is good to hear....the Vr's can take that beating and so can the G60's the charger just needs to be serviced every 30k or so to stay up to par. Or it can easily be replaced with a twin screw unit or even a turbo. If you are really driving that car that hard the tranny is going to be the first to go when your in the higher mile range, im talking like 80k plus, and that is usally just the sycnros.

Hmm, you do reallize that your beloved passat shares the exact wiring with the rado, the same wiring that has all the problems that you speak of.
What kind of passat's are we talking here b3 or b4, it doesn't really make that big of a difference because they still share the same Vr block and engine harness and subframe.
The suttle differences in the wiring for the power windows sunroof and other minor accesories are not enough to make them un-alike.
So in reality you love the car you hate O so much

Yea they are only the fastest production VW evermade up untill the new r32 came out in 04.
Top of line in handling, acceleration, braking, and in comfort, way ahead of its time in the early 90's and it will remain to be a rare ligitimate sports car that won't get dated.
It still can stand toe to toe with most of the new sport compacts in its comparable price range.

I really hope you are not talking about the Scrirocco II Big 1.8 16v on cis......whoooo, man how do you get all that power to the ground.
And looks to spare too dang those US spec scrirocco's sure are good looking.
That explains everything, you love the scrirocco soo much when the Corrado came out, ashamed it in every aspect and put it out of production, you had no choice but to hate on it and spout out all of your misinformed unfortunate expriences and information.

hahahahaha.... ooohhh. That was hilarious. But I suppose it is fully relevant since it's coming straight from the source.

The sig says it all, "Your Local German Enthusiast"... "With a Rotary @ heart".

That wiring harness tidbit was the kicker.

BTW, I've got to reiterate that your kill against the Jetta was impressive. I used to get smoked pretty badly in my '87 base with great compression, gutted exhaust and a K&N drop-in, by my buddy's mildly mod'd Mk3 Jetta VR.

Years ago I walked away from a vw that looked a helluva lot like the one on your pics. I wasnt impressed, but now knowing they have blowers in them makes me appreciate my FC a little more. It was nice cause he was smilling in anticipation, sure thought he was gonna win...must have been a noobie cause when i slowed down he caught up and asked me if it was a TII. lol
