Streetported S4 Na vs 2000 Pontiac Trans Am

I was driving today and saw a transam and after a few miles of driving when we reached the part of the road where the speed limit goes up i downshift from 5th to 4th gear while hes next to me and he starts flooring it and hes pulling on me hard by at least 2-3 carlengths, but i hold 4th gear and i start pulling and i get on his bumper before he knows it and i have to hit my brakes , right as im hitting the brakes while im behind him he starts flooring it again and i keep it in fith gear and he starts pulling on me again but i catch back up to him and fly by him redlining 4th gear at about 7300rpm or so im not sure. After passing him I saw he was turning to go onto a road taking a left so maybe the reason I passed him is because he let off the gas.

I did put on the hazards though after i passed him just because i thought it was funny that i passed him going so fast that he didnt want to race because he had his turn coming up, but i dont care i think it was funny as hell


If I had downshifted into 3rd initially i probably would have alot better pull on him but i wasnt expecting him to start racing me once i downshifted. I would race him again just to see what my car has on it, but i think i would lose i read this car is 305/335tq hp 5.7 litre V8 weighing 3397 lbs.

I used acceleration calculator on rx7.com to determine 1/4 mile times for each car my car with 2550lbs and 160whp, the trans am with 259whp 3335lbs with estimated 15% drivetrain loss on each.

Times -

My car- 14.77 @93.91mph 15.9 power/weight ratio

Trans am - 13.84 @ 101.99mph 12.9 power/weight ratio

So i guess according to this i would need a sub 14 sec car to beat him which means adding turbo or nitous i dont think theres any way to do it keeping it n/a other than adding nitrous.

Makes me wish I had a turbo

Was just messing around with the calculator and found out id need at least 195-200+whp to run 13.8 -13.9sec 1/4 mile @101.4-102.37mph , 12.8-13.1 power weight ratio which is 230-235hp at the flywheel, the only guy with a setup ive seen capable on na was kahren getting 195whp on his s5 with his porting.

The max i think my car will make is 170+whp on a dynotuned safc , 200 hp at the flywheel and with that id run 14.5 @ 96mph according to calc.

Nice kill, but I think he was going easy. The LS1 Trans Am's are no joke, and it is doubtful a 160whp N/A is anywhere near the 13's. Regardless if he can't drive you won no matter how fast his car is.

psh bunch of haterz in this thread, h8in' on the way I type and h8in' on my whip. My ride has headerz and an intake and I killzed a 98 trans am the other day, or maybe it was a trans sport psh ya'll should stop h8in'

Okay....I like a good kill story as much as the next guy but....
Having owned an '86 FC at the same time I owned an '83 Camaro that had a 190 hp 5.0 H.O. engine, I can attest that the Camaro just OWNED my FC. There simply wasn't even a bit of a challenge, that V8 just walked my FC. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED that FC, but...for outright acceleration the Camaro ruled.

Now....take a modern LS1 car in basically the same weight car. Engine putting out a good 100hp/80 lb./ft. more than that H.O. 5 liter.
I can't IMAGINE how devastating a kill it would be against a stock FC. Or even a streetported FC.
Running nitrous.
With a J.A.T.O. pack even.....

lolz i'm just clownin' dawg how did you know i am on myspace?

az for my kill, it waz at a light and and it was a middle age women with a child car seat in back and another few kids in the car, i revdizzled to 8000 rpm and the light went green and I dumped the clutch she pulled 3 car lengthz by 30 and i shifted to 2nd and blew past her going like 55mph in a 45mph zone! once i get my noz bottle filled ill be able to get those damn mini-vans at the lights!

I think the only chance of having 195+ whp on streetported s4 na like mine would be to have a custom intake manifold custom made (kahren custom made his but doesnt yet make them for public sale) , or a carburated system (which is kind of pricey) and a pain in the *** because to tune (at least for me i know nothing about carbs).

The only option looks like it would be getting a 100shot of nos then i would pwn a stock transam or even one that is fixed up (but not if he has a 100 shot lol).

Anyone on here run nos on there na ? I dont know if I would ever use nos on my rx7 as would be scared to blow the engine , but the thought of another 100hp at the touch of a button sounds so sweet.

If anyone is going to say turbo it , I dont think thats something I want to do mainly because of $$ cost and the fact that i have to replace my entire drivetrain because my na transmission/drivetraion will hold around 200+ safely and after that youll need to worry about it breaking something.


As far as the guy up there talking about the older 5.0 camaro being able to beat my rx7, i think it would be a close race because my car has the same power and its much much lighter than that car but it has much more torque then my car. I dont know what the max speed of that camaro was but my fc can hit about 117 @ 7000rpm 4th gear 125 mph @ 7500 and still keep pulling in 5th gear up to 150+ if i wanted it to could that camaro do that ?

heres what the top speed of the gears would be at 7000 and 7500 rpms , seperate images for each.

Note - I have lower profile tires than stock , my tires are 205 50 15" , stock is 205 60 15". Having lower profile tires makes the top speed through each gear lower sacricing a little top speed but improving acceleration.
