Stock 93 R1 vs. 06 WRX

i was going home when i was making a left turn onto a wide open long street as i was turning i saw a bright blue 06 wrx and thought nothing of it and started to gas it a little and then after get a decent amount of speed i noticed that wrx was right on my bumper, he was trying to hold me, so i dropped it into third in boost and punched it, bye bye WRX. the best part was when he pulled up to me at the light he said "thats waay cooler than the rex man" feels great driving a 13 year old that can hand it to modern performance cars.

But is it really fair when you consider our cars outperformed every car for it's 3 year run? Hehe nice though. Here in Reno there is a crew called New Era that's all Subarus and Mitsubishis. They all thought they had something on my 7 but little did they know. Now it's as if when they see me they turn the other way. :-( Hehe.

yea those new STIs are quick, but they're easily beaten by a stock FD, which i've proved myself already. Even the stock 350z fell to me the other day, to a local around here. the guy always yells "i hate you!" I love the 13 year old car

We all love these cars. But a new stock STI is a tick faster than a stock R1, R2 or whatever. The STI puts down around 13.2 second 1/4 mile, and a stock FD is what, somewhere in the high 13's?

WRXs aren't quite the performance icon they once were. STIs kinda took that over.

My FB will lose to some trucks. Yours will lose to a STI. But who cares. I'd rather be driving RX-7 than the Subi.

My buddies R1 FD with only a D/P (and 60k miles) pulled slightly on a stock '05 STI during multiple third to fourth gear runs...

Fair enough. But I guess this reverts to the arguement that it wasn't completely stock and you are narrowing it down to particular gears. I suppose only shows that both cars are kick-in-the-*** fast for a stock vehicle. But as this fellow said(a3n1ma) that and FD will "easily" take a STI. And I don't see how pulling on a car slightly from third to fourth validates his statement.

And the only reason I brought up the WRX vs. STI deal was because in the intial post it was a WRX not an STI. I think a stock FD would trounce a stocks WRX.

nah a sti or evo will take out an FD from a dig for sure. a DP will put the FD over all of the current japanese cars though, ie 350z, rx8, s2k, wrx, evo, sti, rsx type S, g35 etc

Makes sense...WRX STi's lose power up top due to drivetrain loss.

The outcome would have been a little different if it was 1st-4th.

the STis are slower than turbo rotaries at the top end because naturally the rotary produces a lot of its power in the upper RPM ranges, whereas the STi's ideal power range is lower because its torque is there and in addition it has the AWD advantage, once your rolling AWD doesnt do much for you in terms of acceleration, it just makes a big difference from a dig

I have an 06 WRX I have kept up with an EVO in the twisties, didn't get to go from a dig with him, mostly a cat and mouse game. What mods do you have done to your FC? I am thinking the WRX driver was a bad driver or you are a reeeaaally good driver. I could be wrong.

Not really, I think that the STI only has the advantage from a dead-stop. From a 1st-gear roll though 4th, I believe the FD (with a DP) would've pulled on the STI just the same.

Honestly, a stock (good compression/low-milage FD) might not BEAT an STI from a 1st gear roll, but I think it'd be pretty much dead-even through the gears. The quarter-mile advantage of an STI (vs. a stock FD) is purely due to the launching capabilities of the AWD.

STIs are wicked fast. But they sound wicked lame, heh.. know a guy who drives a modded '04 (the starters.. exhaust, intake, etc). It sounds so dumb. I want to tape a whistling pete to his exhaust tip so it sounds a bit more peppy.
