S5 FC vs. 350z w/NOS



Saturday night I went out to go pick up my friend and get some gas, as I was coming off the ramp from Rt. 30 in Aurora, I noticed a group of cars driving down Rt. 31 with shiny as rims. They just so happened to be going the same way I was. So i sped up to go see what cars they where as I rolled up i noticed a Scion TC, some other car that i didn't pay any attention to because in front of him was a black 350z.

At this point, i wasnt too excited because i had smashed a stock 350z with my old setup which was just full RB exhaust, large street port, stage 3 act, and a fcd on stock turbo running like 10-11psi. Anyway, I'll get to my new setup in a minute, as i was admiring the car I noticed that the 350z had an aftermarket exhaust and when he got on it lil' bit it sounded like an intake as well. At this point my heart started beating a lil faster, not just because of the car but i look ahead and there is about a mile and half of open road at about 12am with nobody in front and nobody behind us.

As I pull up next to him i give him the old head knod, and he does the same thing back. Im thinking to myself damn that car is nice. All of the sudden I hear him down shift, im thinking ok cool, i havent really had any kind of race with my new setup. I down shift to second and where doing about 35mph, as i get ready to go i hear (pshhhh, pshhhh) This bastard has nitrous, even better, so i tell him to go!!! As my heart is beatin' like crazy he takes off and i follow, by the time i got close to 4th gear i was 3 cars ahead. I was thinking damn something must be wrong with the nitrous or he started in a 3rd.

Ahead i noticed the light just turned red so i wait for him, he slowed down to talk to his friends, and took a lil while to come up next to me. Finally he gets up there, and he purges the nitrous again, and starts to bring up his revs, a i do the same brought em up to about 4k. The light turns green and i slip the clutch lil bit, and caught traction instantly, i hit second and he's a car and a half back. I slam it into 3rd im already 3-4 cars ahead and i let up. WoW was the only thing that came out of my mouth i couldn't believ what just happend.

The next light, was red again so this time i wanted to talk to him and see what he had done to the car and how much of a shot he was using. As i stop to wait for him, him and his friends following stayed about 4 cars back and wouldnt come up next to me. So i just drove off with a big smile on my face. All in all it was a fun race, wish i could of given you guys more details on his car.

My mods. 89 T2, j spec motor, large street port,BNR stage 3, haltech F10, full racing beat exhaust, ACT stage 3 S/S clutch, 4X1000cc inj. walbro 255 fp, sx fpr,3" custom intake, greddy type S bov, all emission removed, running on 17" stock evo enkies and tires. This was on a street tune and stock TMIC. This next week im putting on my custom FMIC, wideband, koyo rad, e-fan, and im wrapping up the turbo and down pipe so i can try to keep this bad boy cool. Then take it to get dyno tuned. Oh ya, i was running about 14-15psi with just me in the car, the other car had a passenger.

nice........stage 3 turbos on a 13B will do that for ya. What kind of power do you think your making......high 300s??

I can't believe you are still using the TMIC with a BNR stage 3... you are insane but anyway.. the FMIC is gonna make a huge difference as you are getting nothing but really hot air at 14-15 psi. I really am shocked that you are boosting that high on a stock intercooler with an upgraded turbo. I am not surprised you beat him though nice kill.

Im not too sure how much power im making, high 300's would be nice though. But like I said, I will be getting it dynoed soon, and I'll post the graphs as soon as possible.

Thanks, yeah i know it's pretty dumb to be running the stock tmic, believe me this is a main concern of mine.
Can any of you guys take a stab at what i might be running at the track?? Im dying to go, but of course im waiting till all this is finished before I do.

well... the power you are making really all depends on how big that streetport of yours is, and how good your tune is. If your tune is not that great, and streetport not that large you can be making as little as 300-325whp i'm guessing. With a large street port and really good tune you could be making 350+ but i doubt that close to 400. Maybe after your upcoming mods i can see you making 400 w/a very good tune and also depending on how big that streetport is. Even so, 300whp is good for easy low to flat 13's and with a good driver and ET's sometimes high 12's. By the time you get to 400whp you are looking at 12's all day and high 11's with tires and some good driving.

The street port is pretty large like I had said before, the guy thats going to tune knows his stuff, so hopefully he can get it to upper 300's maybe 400. I appreciate the info. good lookin out.

Anytime man. Let me know how everything turns out in turns of hp #'s and times you turn in. Soon enough i'm hoping to go the same route but with a stage 4 and an S4 motor and turbo. Keep up the good work and don't stop representing the rotary on the streets homie.

270HP tops with a stock top mount.

Espcially an upgraded one thats even hotter then the stocker.
