RX7 vs. SC400

So I am driving home last night from my GF's house. I have this massive headace and my nose is all stuffy (I am rocking a nasty cold right now). I fill up my tank of gas and get on 85 South.

In my rear view I see some HID looking lights creeping up on me. The car pulls up to my 1/4 panel and sits there for a minute. I can't tell what it is, but I figure it is a lowered Civic or something admiring the glory that is a clean 3rd gen and wishing he was so fortunate.

Eventually he creeps up next to me. I look at the car more closely and see that it is a Lexus SC400. It is lowered and has rims. He is starting to act aggressive to provoke a race. I am tired and my head is pounding. Eventually, I decided he will probably go away faster if I just race him and get it over with. I survey the area and see that there is almost no traffic and we are in an area of 85 where I dont see cops very often.

I put it in 3rd (we are doing about 60mph or so). I wait until I hear his exhaust note change and see him start to move forward. I slam the petal down and quickly put several car lengths on him. I hit 110mph or so and shut it down. I slow back to 70mph. He comes back up again. I just want to be left alone, my head is killing me at this point. He does the same thing again. I figure I have proved my point and there is not reason to race again. He pulls away and assume that he is going to go away. I did notice that he sounds oddly like a Supra and has an exhaust. I think I heard the sound of turbo. Anyway.

But, no, he comes back. So we do the entire dog and pony show again. So I wait again until I see him go foward and quickly put several car lenghts on him again. Now, I know he going to go away. But, no, he still wants more.

Finally I decided to let him get some distance in the race 1st and then pass him so he can under stand that his car is slow and can not touch my RX7. I put it in 3rd and wait. He goes for it. I let him get all the way to about 5ft in front of my car then I hit the gas again. I pass him being sure to shift into 4th right at his door so he can enjoy my BOV (yea, it was only at 6500rpm, but I thought it was funny). In 4th at 5000rpm I still put several car lenghts on him. Finally, he realises that there is nothing short of shooting out my tires that will ever allow him to win a race with my car. He slows down and moves over 3 lanes. I continue home, wishing my headace would go away.

Me 93 RX-7, GT35R, street port, .8bar boost (low boost setting), untuned, full tank of gas, massive headace.

Him, SC400, exhaust, maybe a Supra swap. . . and a penchent for getting 0wnd.

I think it comes with the same engine as the non-turbo supra (2JZ-GE) and some companies make turbo kits for that motor. However, some people swap the 2JZ-GE for the 2JZ-GTE motor for a more setup. That is what I would do if I had one.

the sc300 had the 2jz-ge, the sc400 has a 4 liter v8 that pushes anywhere between 245 and 280hp depending on the year. all sc400's are automatics

Might have been a SC300 or a SC400 I didnt look at the badges. It did not sound like a V8, but then again, who knows. Maybe we should check the SC forums and look for a death post.

I am going to go gt35r soon and am wondering what some feasible 1/4 mph times would be, also, what kind of HP numbers are you pulling? Would i benefit in speed with a street port? (I AM NOT AS MUCH AS A NOVICE AS IT MAY SEEM FROM WHAT I JUST SAID)

Feasable 1/4 times with it on street rubber is high 11s to low 12s. That is what I am doing on 245 width tires. 400whp is very easy to get. My car seems to have more power under the curver and better (faster) spool then similar cars with stock ports. I believe you can run slightly lower boost to hit your target HP level then with stock ports.

I definately want to be able to kill some supras, and i definately have the need for speed, with some fairly agressive tuning, what do you think the setup you have is capable of, and are you happy with the turbo (versus ur T-88, i think i remember u saying that is what you used to have?????)

It is way cooler than the T-88 for what I want. Granted it isnt making 500whp but it does make power at 3500rpm. With a T-88 you can go to 600whp if you are so inclined. I am not.

I think that with agressive tuning and 1.1 bar it should be 410-430whp with my current setup. It made 370whp at 6500 at .8bar (we were not revving past 6500 due to boost control issues that are now resoloved). I might actually be tuning it this weekend at the dyno. If so, I will post the results.

Umm, I was under the impression that the GT35R is easily a 10 second turbo... That running 12's would actually be a pretty bad time for that turbo.

^ I was under the same impression, when you said that I got a little bit worried. If anyone has a GT35R setup please chime in, I would like to have one due to their nice spool characteristics, maybe even a divided w/ a T4, just looking for some info on the performance characteristics of the turbo, thanks.

Well, with slicks and 20+ psi one could probably run 10s. I run street tires and am not tuned yet so high 11s low 12s are pretty good numbers. I dont know how fast the car would be with slicks. When I was at Silver dollar running 1bar and 10:1 AFR (untuned, and uber rich (yes I have a wideband and I can see my AFRs going down the strip)).

I was spinning the wheels all through 1st and 2nd. I could not give more than 50% throttle in 1st and 75% in 2nd. I ended up shifting 1st at 6000 rpms and 2nd at 7000 rpms. My 60ft and 8th mile times were terrible but my 8th-1/4th mile time was exceptionaly fast.

Once I get rid of my crappy sumitomo v rated 245 width tires and get some decent rubber in the back and actually get the car tuned I think that mid 11s are possible. I do not think that with street tires (i.e. not drag radials , or 'r' compound tires) anyone is going to hit 10s with full interior, full gas, and less than 515whp.

For refference you can check out http://www.rx7.com/accel_calculator.html and put in some numbers. It is fairly (somewhat) accurate. My car weighted 3030 with full tank of gas, full interior and me in it on the scale at Silver dollar and 2850 w/o me in it.
