Talking FD vs. 2004/05 911 Carrara 4S

On my way home today and I see a goregous 2004-ish 911 Carrara 4S. It has an aftermarket exhaust, lowered, aftermarket rims (19Xreally friggen wide), and what looks like a BBK. I dont know what he has under the hood (rear deck) but I am guessing it wasn't stock. I pull up to it and admire what looks to be about 100K in car (83K for car, rest in mods). The driver looks to be around my age (late 20s early 30s). He smiles and takes off. I quickly catch up to him and we line up doing about 60 in 3rd gear. We go for it and I pull on him. He rolls down his window and gives me a big thumbs up and asks me about the car. He askes if I race it and what it runs. I tell him and he compliments me about how fast it is. We go our seperate ways and give each other another thumbs up.

I would guess that in a 1/4 mile race we would be no more than .5 sec from each other, he was very fast, prob mid-low 12s.

It is very cool to race with someone that is as cool as this guy is. It makes having the FD so much fun when you can mess around with other enthusists that are cool. It was the most satisfying street race to date. I am still feeling really good about beating a modified Porsche 911 4S with my RX-7.

Me. 93 RX-7, GT35R, 1.08 bar of boost (high boost setting for a Porsche race ), still not tuned right though .
Him: 2004/05 Carrara 4S with at least an exhaust, but prob. more.

aww poor porsche guy.
Hope his ego is ok.

Wish I could find a race in high dollar imports.
When I run into a fast high dollar imports in my FD.
always a older man/woman driving like miss daisey.

7's can't lose.

Cool Kill.

I tried racing what looked like an older Carrera about 2-3 years ago and I lost bad. Didn't help that I was driving what was a low 14 second car.

Word is that the non-turbo 996 motor doesn't gain very much power from anything less than pricey forced induction kits (at which point one might as well just get a Turbo car). Combine this with the heavy AWD and it's not too too fast - but still a Class A car to be sure.

Good kill!

i raced a carrera before..not the one you raced, just the normal new carrera's out now that just says carrera on the back..

he was on my *** on the offramp getting onto the highway and i really hate that so i let him eat some turbo smoke and i pulled away from him in 3rd gear, hitting 105mph only to look in the rearview just to see his lights far away..

Car and Driver says the car will pull a 13.0 @108mph stock which is not particularly fast. It can't be that hard to get them into the mid 12s. To make the really fast I totally JEC-31 that to make the really fast (i.e. 11s or better) you are going to have to turbo them.

Take it from someone with a WRX that used to have 320awhp. AWD is boring has hell. Hence the taking it back to stock (almost, couple of mods left that I havent sold yet) and prepairing to sell it and buy a truck.

I raced a guy in one of those. It was a very nice car, and pretty fast. Just not fast enough

don't fall victim to a new carrera. the 996's are not that fast, but the '05 997 s model is pretty quick.
