Seams more believable for the power numbers you say you put down.

Are you serious? Seriously what is the fascination with these kits which don't fit right and use super special secret $hitsubishi old school turbo technology from 30 years ago?
I think there is three T-78 RX-7's around my area. What do you get for that money?
A down pipe you have to dent to get to fit right or shave the LIM. A turbo who's parts aren't readily available when it comes time for a rebuild. (They always end up as Garrett hybrid). A turbo that isn't even water cooled. Not to mention whenever you ask the owners the specifications of the turbos they have no idea. Anyone have a compressor map???
I'd take an old school Garrett or a newer GT or a PT Garrett any day!

Anyways, make sure you guys get some good video. Oh and Ihor you're going down brother!

The Greddy kits wouln't be my first choice, but they are proven to make power. I think I'm gonna add a 100 shot pretty soon here....

I just love the way the 88 feels when its spooled, compared to the single fds ive driven.

I have a Greddy turbo. I do not know the specifications but I don't care. It's true they are old as hell, the good part is they have been proven very reliable and make decent power for old technology. (I made 330 at 10 psi and 410 on 15, RW of course). The idea of a better spooling possibly ball bearing turbo is very sexy but from my limited little experience a T78 with street port, 4.30 gears and drag radials is not super horrible. I am new to the world of big turbos, and I really like the 63-1 and the RX6 although the latter is said to run out of breath a little on high rpm. But I feel that the T78 is like a Banshee, old technology but proven. The T88 just takes the whole big lag drag concept one step further. I would love for this race between R.E.S and Brian to go down (only if the 7 wins of course).

This is probably corny as hell, and has been seen by all a bunch of times, but here is a quick description of the 78 from the Rotary Performance website. It's what got me to buy one, LOL. Of course it's called the "internet setup" and is "not good for the street". I personally have no complaints but it's my first "fast" car and I know nothing.

"The GReddy T78 kit is the same high HP turbo which we’ve used extensively at our shop and our own race car. This setup produces an easy 400+ RWHP at 15psi on race gas and with proper tuning and more boost, is capable of propelling your RX-7 into the 10’s. We’ve produced over 500 RWHP using this exact turbo setup out of the box. We’ve found this turbo spools better than the equivalent sized Garrett units. The turbo unit is a Mitsubishi that propelled our RX7.com drag car to two world championships. This can be attributed to its highly efficent aerodynamics and also it’s unbelievable durability: we have never experienced a turbo failure running these Mitsubishi turbos."

That's just a load of $hit they tell you so they can sell you one. If I remember correctly their shop car has been running a T-88 for years. (Jigsaw did run a T-78 if I'm not mistaken)
As far as spooling is concerned there is no way in hell they compare to Garrett based turbos even the old school ones. Just have two similar sized turbos in your hands and you can tell the difference the GReddy ones weigh a ton! I'd take a T04R, TA45, T04Z, T04S, GT40, GT42R any day of the week!
The one thing the GReddy kits have going for them is price.

Thanks for the info glass. Learn something every day. Hey what do you think about a T51R Kai? In the future, I would like to go with a more advanced big single. How about a GT35/40? Which one is better (for a high hp street car?)

You are correct, it looks likethey switched from the T78 to the T88. I assume it has slightly more lag, being that it is bigger, and makes more power. Is this corect?

Funny about RP...I had them do quite a bit of work on my car when I just got it. I knew I was going to go single turbo and knew I wanted the GT35/40...I asked Chris if they would get one and install it for me and they said no..they would only do the Greddy unit. They do great work but I wasn't about to give up my 35/40 dream. That's when I found Gotham. They will work on anything for you.

Yeah, they[rp] keep alot under raps. Btw, My 98 cobra went 10.80 @ 128 a few weeks
ago. I hate to say it, but it is much easier to drive in a drag race than my fd. I never
miss 2-3 shift and it does 1.50 60 fts like clockwork. With that said, I still feel the fd
is much more fun to drive fast on the road- 100mph plus. People just stare at me in
my cobra and noone will street race me, but in the rx7 I get all kinds of action. I'm
proud to say I have never lost a street race since going single 4 years ago. My street
race days are over 'cause they will flat cut your nuts off now if you are caught.
