Rematch: RX7 vs Supra
Well I have owned the car for about 1 month and a half now. Last week I installed my fuel cut defender and today the exhaust and down pipe should be on, also a mbc. I will raise boost from 11psi to 17-18psi. Very exited to see the difference from stock.
My cousin and I ran when I first bought the car, I was stock and he had an HKS exhaust with down pipe. However now he has added the apexi dual intake system.
I will try to get a run with him tonight depending what time the car is finished. If not tonight then probably tomorrow.
So let the bets begin lol j/k. who do you think will come out on top guys? We are both equal drivers even though the Supra is fairly new to me and I have not raced it. The last time we ran he had me by about 2 cars when we cut off. Cheers!

Incorrect!!! You can run 18psi just fine on pump gas. Get an SAFC and lean it out. You can pick up 40 to 50 rwhp.

Wait, are you saying that the boost was raised to 17-18 psi on the supra or the FD? If its on the supra then thats one of the BPU's and is totally safe on that car but if your talking about the 7 then thats not a good idea....
If the supra is the one with the boost at 18 your gonna own him
Sorry guys, in this instance...teh 7 does loose

17-18psi with an exhaust and down pipe on a supra is fine. If I were to add an intake to my fuel cut con, exhaust, downpipe and mbc, then I would be full BPU, after that comes an intercooler andadjustable cam gears. that takes it up to BPU+, then there is BPU++ if you add a fuel con., and then the big boys which are APU. My cousin cannot raise boost on the 7 because he is still on the stock ecu and we dont want to blow anything, so that’s out of the question.
When we ran last time I was completely stock and he had about 1-1/2 cars on me, but I don’t think 2. He had exhaust and down pipe then, now he has the apexi intake.
I will get my car back tomorrow, I just dropped off the down pipe and exhaust, also the mbc. Very exited.

You all race yet? Supra's definately going to take the win this time.
Edit: Be careful not to overboost using that FCD.

KR = knock retard, there was a thread on SF not too long ago where they did a big study and with anything over ~15psi on 93 pump , there was some varying degree of KR -particularly on the OBD-I cars with the lean spot. Not necessarily a bad thing and 18psi is probably fine, but there is some power left on the table.

Ok, we just finished running. After the gym we decided it was late enough and the streets were empty.
We ran four times, two from a 1st gear roll and two from a 2nd gear roll on. The results of the runs off 1st gear were the same both times, and the runs from the 2nd gear roll on were also the same. So it was very accurate.
I had no idea that the Supra would have that much lag on even the stock turbo’s, but that definitely was noticeable. I build full boost (17-18psi) in 3rd gear. Unlike my cousins RX7 which has good power all through the power band.
1st gear roll from 2,000rpms:
This was done off a 1st gear roll. We go on the 3rd beep. We are dead even all through 1st, shift to 2nd and I spin crazy. Still dead even, I get back traction and shift to 3rd, no I begin to start pulling. At the end of 3rd I have about 1 and half cars, shift to 4th and pull harder, now I have about 2 and half cars almost 3. Shift to 5th gear and stay in it for about 3 seconds and cut off, I am 4 cars in front.
2nd gear roll from 3,500rpms:
This was done off a 2nd gear roll on. We go on the third beep and we are about even until very late in my rpm’s when I start to pull, shift to 3rd with some wheel spin and I have full boost. I start to pull, I have about 1 car now, but then I start to pull extremely hard as I am about to shift to 4th. I shift to 4th and I now have 3 cars. 4th gear ends and I shift to 5th gear and now have about 5 cars and pulling damn hard from what my cousin says. I could not believe how strong the Supra is in the high end.
I wish I could have got this all on tape but there was no one we could get to video it. My cousin and I are experienced drivers and know how to race cars. So this was an accurate outcome. My cousin and I defiantly think that the Supra is now faster then my MR2 which was mid to high 12s. Cant wait to get an intake system on the Supra with an intercooler. My cousin will be changing over to HKS intake, he will also be adding an intercooler upgrade and also getting the Power FC, and also a straight pipe with no cats when he gets tuned for it of course. As well as more boost.
Thanks for reading guys, and I can’t wait to get the Supra to the 1/4 mile to see what it can do!

confusing story....the supra should walk the rx with those mods and by 100 be pulling away by the car length. I've owned both cars and know well what each can do

I think its that I am not used to modifying large motors. All my other cars were 4 cylinders and the power gains were not that great. When I was stock, he had me by about 2cars, and after only adding an exhaust, downpipe and mbc, i gained that many cars! Was not expecting it I must say.

Good race. In my opinion the MR2 launches better than the Supra, so although your Supra pulls way harder than the MR2 and the RX7 you may have difficulty laying down low 12s. You might run a high 12 at an insane trap speed.
