Really shameful inadvertant death, but no rx-7's...
We were coming back from dinner last night in my friend's 85 N/A 300zx. The car was driving really well so he was feeling good and we were going up a hill with traffic at about 55, just cruising passing everyone and feeling good. Then we caught a light with a newer FORD EXPLORER. We came to kind of an abrupt stop at the light and the Z is loud (no cat, flowmaster) so maybe the explorer thought we wanted to race. The light went green and we took off quickly, not launching or anything like that, and not even thinking that this explorer noticed us from way up there. Once we started moving he was flooring it and this Explorer totally raped us. Neither of us said anything until we realized that we were going full blast and this explorer was pulling away from us and we both burst out laughing. Since he was trying to pace it we ended up going about sixty and had to brake to avoid doing a ricer flyby when the explorer finally let off.
Its kind of sad that pretty much any new car even a freaking automatic SUV is faster than our crappy N/A 80's sportscars and probably gets about the same gas mileage as my 7. It must have been a V8 right? At least thats what I keep telling myself...

He is eventually going to buy a TII and do a built V8 swap into it (looking for 400+ rwhp N/A) and use the Z as a beater. Hopefully he will buy a TII with a pretty decent engine so I can get it streetported and swap that bitch into my first gen.

I actually agree with him on the explorer being pretty quik for an suv. I have no clue if they ahve the cobra motor but know that the v8's have the 5liter. They go pretty good and they are awd.
