Raced a Carrera S last night

So last night I was driving home from my friends house at about 2 in the morning noticed a car in the rear mirror and was playing the guessing game by the headlights to what it was. I started slowing for a red light and the closer it got I realized it was something sporty, he pulled up to the same light but the intersection was angles so he was a little ahead of me. I read the back and it said Carrera S. I didnt want to just start revving my engine and him look at me like I am retarded. So I waited for the light and started out aggressively to sample his reaction. he tried to pull right past me and I layed on it and took off.

I wanted it to be a more legit race so I slowed down and waited for him to come up. He pulls up next to me and lines up and he starts getting on it so I down shifted to second and pulled away like crazy.

Afterwards I took my exit across the bridge and he got right behind me so I went through the corner really hard to see if he rip through it too and he did. I figured that was enough screwing around and just started cruising. He pulled up next to me and asked if my car was turbo and then we went our separate ways.

I was really surprised I beat his car so badly I just pulled away like it was nothing. Mods are in my sig, and the Porsche was a convertible.

The carrera s has 385hp from the factory and 310 lbs of torque, so it should have been fairly close. My guess is he was a poor driver, or your making more power then your sig states, you should not have been pulling on him that hard.

Yeah not sure how you can not know how to drive on the freeway especially when I let him get the jump, but I guess there are some pretty bad drivers out there lol. All in all it was fun regardless......

-note to self: if I ever spend 100k on a car I will learn to drive it properly.

can you describe how good you beat him? I just based this on the fact that he was a car ahead of me and the second I hit the gas I was flying by him. He may have given up after that part I am not sure.

Did you get the 3 honk roll or...? If you just boosted it and gave him no warning like an acceleration taunt then yeah i can see it, otherwise the 3 honk shoulda been you loosing unless you brake boosted and he sucked at shifting real bad, plus there is no way you got him from a dig.

I would consider the whatever you want a call it from the light an acceleration taunt because I am pretty sure when he came up to me I caught him by surpise. I reread and in the second race it might sound like it was from a dig but it started at about 40 mph.

I dont have a horn so no, I waited for him to go then once he started getting on it I floored it.

brake boost? not really needed at 4k in second with sequential twins.

Can I never post a kill without people saying I am lying? People wonder why we get a whopping 3 new threads in here a year.

If the carrera has 385hp stock, wouldn't it have less than his 317whp just a thought.

you guys are funny lol! The carrera s is rated at 385 crank horsepower not wheel horsepower. They dyno 285-305 at the wheels. So your car is supposed to be faster, especially if he was an auto.

I think people way over estimate porsches there aren't that many models that are overly quick in a straight line....

actually the auto's are faster, but yeah people on here like to nay say **** even though most have no experience with the cars. I have noticed in most my kill threads that the people nay saying are the ones who's cars dont run or not fast.

The Carrera S convert is heavy, and underpowered to most moded RX-7's. As to the twisty's that is alos RX-7 country.

Only in 2009 did the Carerra S get a bump in power to 385 Hp, which is ~308 rwhp assuming a 20% auto drivetrain loss. In all likelihood you ran a car that had ~345Hp or ~ 290 rwhp & weighed ~ 500 lbs more. So, the car had about 10% less power & weighed ~ 20% more. No wonder you smoked him. Cool. Good kill

Nice job. A physician friend of mine had one of those and let me drive it through the mountains one day when I was living in colorado. They are a lot of fun to drive, especially in the twisty's, but after driving that I gave him a ride in my FD (on twins at the time) and there was no argument that my car was much faster, even through the corners.

That was my thought exactly. You can't forget as well that unless this guy is a Porsche fan, he probably didn't notice a difference between a 996 model and a 997, so it could have very well been the 290 hp version from 99-02.

The 911 now is more of an icon car than it used to be. The luxuries it comes with are things that Porsche would have never considered in the 70's, you know, if they were to have been available. The Carrera S is just one of the models that comes with a bump up in power.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying these aren't capable cars by any means. I'm just saying that all models need to be more GT2 and GT3 status with their interiors. I mean, after all, the FD is a lot more bare bones than the 911 Carrera S, and weighs significantly less to prove it as well.
