Potential Kill - advice needed though...
Hiya all, i have been challenged to race a 2003 Yamaha R6 and if my RX comes in first over a 1/4mile i get the bike.......and yes, he's totally serious. (he has the money !)
So what do you guys think ? I used to race R6's and GSXR600's in my old 360bhp Evo and have never lost to one, the RX is quicker after 60mph so i'm pretty confident i'll do it hassle free....
I'm running between 450-500bhp@the fly in my RX, semi slicks, coilovers and endless 6pots on the front.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts guys !!!

"It's like this - If I lose, winner gets my car. But if I win, I take the money AND the respect. To some people that's more important."
Don't do it man!!! I bet Johnny's got $100,000 into that bike EASY!!!
Is he gonna need more than that Crotch Rocket to beat you at Race Warzzzzzz???

You bunch of bloody nutters !
I know it's an aweful 'boy racer' question but i had to ask ! I'm hoping i'll trounce it, but i'm a bit of a virgin with my RX and can't currently launch for sh*t.
If i win, i get the bike, if he wins, i have to post on a couple of local forums a thread with the wording of his choice.... It could be bad !!!
Ask any racer, any real racer.........doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning.

Well that depends. A stock 03 r6 will run 10s. A full interior 450whp RX7 will not. A decently modded 03 R6 will run 9s. A stock 05 600 runs 9s (it was in one of last month bike mags, think it still might be on the stands at Barnes and Noble). My super sport legal 04 636R that I race in WERA runs at 10.02 with Michellen Pilot race tires (warmed for 30 minutes prior to race).
Personally, I think he might make you look like a tit.
But then again, most sport bike riders can't ride for ****, so you very well might win.

Riding tripple digits is nothing. I go around turn 9 at road atl on my bike at 160mph or so in the dry and 130+ in the rain. I have taken my hands off the bars, sat up and stretched on my Ducati at 100mph. Wind or nay he will most like own you up to 150mph. If you can keep accelerating from there you can beat him. A stock R6 isnt going to go much faster than 150mph.
That is unless he cant ride. There is a GOOD probablity of this.

I didnt even notice that he said FWHP. Sorry, we only quote wheel horse power 'round these parts.
Did you take your engine out and do a dyno on it out of the car or did you add up the numbers each of your bolt ons give you plus the stock horse power to come up with that number?
450 fwhp is like 360whp (20% loss) and that will yeild you 12s all day (if you can drive). He will 0wn you.

Sorry for the late reply guys ! Thanks for all the imput, and cheers for the rider input 855m0n0, i'm beginning to think i'm gonna struggle......
As for beating some other 600's in my old Evo, it's true, witnesses each time.....but it's only ever been on our ONLY dual carriageway which is about 1/3rd of a mile, has a dodgy bend in it which most bikers back off way too much for. As you say, most sport bike riders can't ride for sh*t..... I know i can't !!
I think i'll give it a go and see what happens, i haven't got much to lose apart from looking like a tw*t on a couple of local forums ! It could be worse !
Power on my RX is purely what the company that built the car claim it to have. It will be dyno'd in the next month or so.
Here's the spec anyway !
Street ported engine (Dragon Performance)
T66 Turbo
External Wastegate plumbed into exhaust
1300cc Primary Injectors
800cc (x2) Secondary Injectors mapped through Power FC

....an evo with 360awhp would get absolutely murdered by an r6. The car below (noteven sure if its yours or not, i doubt it) would murder a 360 awhp evo. I think the rx7 may lose to the r6 though. on the hwy it would be a different story.
now if you are going to talk about people who cant ride/drive thats just silly. why bother even comparing.
SOrry for being an *** but u really sound like a BS'er.

if you are rusty in the 7 then learn how to drive first. find an open area & learn how to shift.
as for the bike race your going to need a long strip of road/Hwy otherwise you is gona get killed
But the 7 cant loost so i dont know???

your FD sounds fast.
Practice launching and the 2nd -> 3rd shift.
Its basically all gonna come down to: if the R6 rider
can ride. You'll be suprised how many crotch rocket owners
with 600,750,900,1000. Can't ride worth a crap.
And don't read to much into what Magazines 1/4 mile times on Bikes.
97% of all the bikes/rider on the road, can't get any where near
those times on the same bike.
Btw, how much did you pay for that FD?

Matty - Thanks for the kind words........ Just to clear a few things up:
a - The 600's i've raced in my old Evo had poor riders, even by my standards, and i know i'm ***** on 2 wheels. Seriously though, over a 3rd of a mile they were no where near, they had such poor launches, probably down to trying to keep the front from lifting.
b - Yes this is my RX, i've had it 3wks and only taken it out a handful of times. Why would i post a thread about a car i don't own ????
C - Against a good rider i know i'd lose but the guy on the R6 that wants a race is as inexperienced on his bike as i am in the RX and we really want to know what will happen. He's very big headed and very wealthy, hence him saying he'll give me the bike IF i come in 1st.
D - I don't mind you being an ***, there's plenty around, you get used to em !
SlingShotRX7 - 2nd to 3rd is a NIGHTMARE at high revs, this i have noticed..... any advice ? I've read up on a brace that can be fitted to help and a B&M short shift kit. I had one on the Evo so i'm familiar with that. Not seen or heard of a brace though. Does the box move slightly or something ? Why is it so hard from 2nd to 3rd when going some ???
I paid £12,000 STG for the car. The guy that had it spent around £25,000stg putting it together over the last 2yrs. He has sold it to make room for a 780bhp(fly) Skyline i believe.

Matty - Sorry, just to point out another thing mate, a 360rwhp Evo would be around 450bhp @ the fly, 0-60 will be around 3.6secs (probably less), not sure what an R6's 0-60 would be, i'm guessing around 3.2secs, BUT, as so many people have said, not many riders can launch for toffee..... so i seriously doubt in the real world an R6 would 'KILL' a 360rwhp Evo. The Evo would be quicker to 60 than the RX too, purely from a traction point of view. After that the RX would definitely KILL the Evo, that's why i bought it !!! I don't know of any RX owners in the UK who have hit a sub 4sec 0-60 run. Where as Evo's aren't a problem when you're talking that power.
I truly don't mean to sound like a complete argumentative t*sser by the way ! I'm still learning so bare with me ! I can only go on what i've seen with my own eyes....

Wow i love prices for cars in england. When i was over there i picked up the equivlent of an auto trader and found a skyline for 7500 pounds i seriously considered shipping it but realized how much it would cost in the end.
