bigger the port, the faster the motor spools the turbo. also the bigger the port, the less low end torque the motor has.

my half bridge idled at 1500rpm

darkphantom 08-15-06 09:06 PM

i have a big 1/2 bridge port so mines a little higher @ the idle (1800)

21K95RX7 08-15-06 09:34 PM

+1 on the great info thanks alot

mine was half assed and shitty.

darkphantom 08-15-06 10:14 PM

mine took a long time to break in cause my ceramic apex seals were 1 piece so it took a long time for it to start. now it starts in 2-3 cranks

/\ who did your motor

razorback 08-15-06 10:21 PM

guy i bought the car from, first time porting. it wasnt pretty. mine had hurley seals, started pretty easily, considering it had a piggy back.

Don't believe everything you read..

GoodfellaFD3S 08-16-06 07:54 AM

darkphantom, where did the info come from? it looks like it was copied and pasted.

dubulup 08-16-06 05:05 PM

due to bridge ports overlap and raw fuel getting to the manifold...I've been in a car that spooled VERY fast

Well it looks like it was copied and pasted so im assuming he got it from a knowledgeable site.

I didnt want to search to make sure it was right.

21K95RX7 08-16-06 09:54 PM

sh*t i didn't know either...do you want to elaborate on the mis-info?

GoodfellaFD3S 08-16-06 10:19 PM

Generally speaking, that info seems correct based on what i have seen. It's at least in the ballpark.

PDViper77 08-16-06 11:31 PM

My half-bridge idles at 1300rpm. I hit 22psi by 5000rpm so its not too bad.

Improved FD 08-17-06 01:02 AM

yeah BDC told me a bridge port hits harder and faster, and will spool small turbos so fast they run out of breath early

wish I would have looked into it earlier

Improved FD 08-17-06 01:06 AM

so Rich are you going to line up again or open the checkbook and go single? I saw you browsing the for sale section ;)

heh, stalker! Probably both......

Whizbang 08-17-06 09:03 AM

this thread reminds me of that thread from a year or so back where the guy couldnt believe he lost to a built diesel.

hell even 500 hp isnt all that amazing now adays.

allow me to find the video of the 700hp colt vs. 1200 hp supra

Improved FD 08-17-06 09:09 AM

the practial side of it is, where can you use a 500 hp car, unless you live in Wyoming? every city in this country is increasingly congested with cell phone toting soccer moms....350 in these cars is PLENTY

more people are going to end up dead pumping their ego

I'll stick with the YZF-R1 in the peaceful mountains of NC, and go faster than any of these bloated 500 hp gas guzzling monsters for a whole lot less $$$....you spend all that money for a few precious seconds of running someone on a freeway (illegally), it's kind of dumb

it's the age of excess

GoodfellaFD3S 08-17-06 10:19 AM

You can use that kinda power in lots of the south. Texas and Oklahoma definitely.

Hell, even in NJ you can hit 140 certain highways at night when traffic is sparse......

21K95RX7 08-17-06 01:27 PM

hell yea jersey is the wild west, anything goes...very little law enforcement per the amount of people. ive hit 125 (in the sti) on the turnpike during rush hour :). you just have to dodge the potholes right rich :D

darkphantom 08-17-06 07:26 PM

reliable source (mazda rx7 performance handbook)

ive seen were some say that 400hp on a rx7 is more than enough power. That was true back then. but now these amg 600hp mercedes, 510hp viper, 505hp vette, 400hp isnt enough. (thus the reason why i went with the bridge)

StinkyTurbo 08-17-06 08:41 PM

on my t2, i had full spool by 2500rpmish on half bridge.

and i know PLENTY of spots around here where you can get up in the high speeds. i also know where there are some kick ass curvy roads.

Matter of oppinion. Your YZF-R1 may be faster and get better gas mileage, but lets look at what it dosent do...

Drive in rain
Provide any sort of protection from an accident
Cool you off on hot days
Warm you up on cold days
Help your back
Carry anything
etc....

I could probably make the list alot longer, but im to lazy. And for the record its not even remotly hard to speed around here. The fastest I've ever gone in my car was on 485 in the middle of the day. Your on your bike would be more likely to end up dead because of a phone toting soccer mom or ego pumping than me in my FD. I'd take the FD over the bike anyday, nobody gives a shit how fast a bike is. Don't EVER compare a car to a bike.

Improved FD 08-18-06 12:39 AM

um, I can compare a car to a bike anytime I want :)

what mods do you have? FD? I'm here in Charlotte, we'll have to meet up

Improved FD 08-18-06 12:42 AM

btw, not many soccer moms where I ride :) as in, essentially none...almost no traffic at all (I don't keep the bike in Charlotte)

Yeah, I moved to Texas. To become legal I had to sell my FD and get a Ford truck :rlaugh:

razorback 08-19-06 09:57 PM

that sounds about right ;) if its lifted over 5 inches does that give you the ability to run for senate? :)

Probably :) I've seen some way too high trucks down here. It's kind of crazy.

care to state your education credentials, duh-wayne?

I hate Mustangs with a passion, it has nothing to do with being "one dimensional"

if Ford goes out of business I'll laugh

razorback 08-20-06 01:18 PM

smarter than you.

things don't look good for them or GM but they can thank themselves for not evolving with the times. i wonder if the guy who said "lets make the H2" is still at GM?

Improved FD 08-20-06 01:41 PM

if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on GM before Ford

I can't think of one Ford vehicle I would even consider purchasing

I'd buy a C6 Z06 in a minute, and several others

razorback 08-20-06 02:47 PM

cobra, lightning, f650, and the gt40 maybe an old gutted mustang for that sleeper look.

(im not a ford or chevy guy, im a mopar guy for the record)

Improved FD 08-20-06 03:22 PM

I'd drive a GT if they gave me one...I guess :)

Henessey 08-21-06 11:16 AM

Did he ever post on Streetfire... Im on limited cpu time i cant look thru 14 pages.
