Late night race: 95'ish Impala SS
I had spent the night playing pool and watching street races.
I drive a slightly modded '88 TII.
-rebuilt and street-ported using 9:4 N/A rotors
-80mm DP/MP bolted to the stock 2.5" Y-pipe and mufflers
-K&N drop in filter
-MBC set to 10-11psi max boost (dropping off to 8psi at redline)
-ported WG
-Greddy Type-S BOV
-cleaned 550cc injectors
On the way home from Kent, as I was merging onto I-405, a black Impala SS ripped by me. I kind of laughed and ignored him as I watched him WOT on down the well-lit freeway. My friend started freaking out and was like, "why aren't you chasing him"?
I asked why I should waste my time.
He said, "Those things AREN'T slow".
I said "oh", and down-shifted into 4th and proceeded to give chase.
We caught up to him in a minute and made our presence known. He was cruising at about 85 mph, so I wasn't able to catch 3rd gear. We were both kind of pulling forward and dropping back, not sure who was going to draw first, but I decided to lead by example and mash the throttle. Suprisingly he got the point, and as I glanced out my passenger window I saw him hanging out right next to me.
I started pulling as 4th gear began to pick up through 5k RPM's and beyond. I honestly didn't expect some massive sedan cruiser to be anywhere near me, but by the time I let off at 7k+ RPM's in fourth, and 125 mph, I was probably only 4 or a little more car-lengths ahead.
We both slowed down for merging onto I-5, I went the "carpool way" and he took the normal route. Needless to say, we popped out 150 feet behind him, and my friend looks at me and asks, "round two"?
I thought for a moment and agreed. I caught up to him again and just hung out with him for a couple minutes as we made our way through the sparse traffic until the freeway opened up empty in front of us. This time I was able to grab third.
We both hit it and I slowly walked away, from 70 to 140. In the top of 4th gear I stopped pulling momentarily (although I was about 5 car's ahead), but by 5th gear I saw him let off behind me.
I can honestly say I was impressed.
I don't know what the Impala had done to it, but it was CLEAN with probably 20's or something on it. Judgeing by the sound it also had exhaust.
Peace
