I now only drive the FD occasionally, as I have a company car and also an fc vert as my droptop toy.

Having said that, I revamped alot of my FD roughly 9k miles ago----new ported motor, new BNR twin turbos, newly rebuilt tranny, new clutch, new engine wiring harness, oodles of new gaskets/crush washer/coolant hoses, stainless steel omp hoses etc. I have since put in a new TII diff, new 4.3 gears, new toe links and trailing arms, the list goes on.

I still have all my original bushings and pillow *****, but that's about it.

I have removed some stuff, which can't hurt reliability---all emissions, all sequential crap, my p/s and my a/c.

I don't really feel it has hurt the reliability of the car at all. I have a water injection system which comes online above 9 psi and I think that is my single best 'reliability' mod from the standpoint of protecting the engine. Although I drive the car less frequently now (2-3k miles per year) when I do drive it I flog the hell out of it .

As far an maintenance goes, I follow a similar schedule to everyone else, coolant flushes yearly, oil changes every 3-6 months (which is every 750 to 1500 miles), plug changes when the car needs them, etc.

I think when building these cars, esp for higher hp, you can't skimp on engine bay components. I have had zero problems with my FD in the last 3 years, zero leaks of any kind, no overheating, starts up every time. With a few exceptions, I do all my own work. Nobody loves your FD like you do
So, if I read correctly, you drive your FD about as much as I do mine. (I also have a 88 vert, and a Rodeo for DD duty.)

The difference seems to be that your car components never have a good chance to breakdown because you are constantly upgrading.

I understand what you are saying about the car still being reliable, but I don't think I could live with as much modification as you like to do. Too many other fish to fry.

So, for me, I guess the answer is that it is probably best for me to keep the car relatively tame, and enjoy it as is.

Thanks for the answer.

I'm with Rich on this one... I have read the Aspec people say that you can gain a little more power from a raw dump... but the noise at WOT would be just too much. Just not worth it.

Also, if you ever plan to road race the car, Damian was telling me most places have db limits, which is one of the reason that his car, my car, as well as GooRoo's car, are all plumbed back into the DP.

So dumped wastegate on the street = fail
dumped wastegate on the track = fail

Anyways, good luck with the setup Rich, we are looking forward to your numbers! :P

Yeah, I have actually. I need to sit down and figure the increased costs and see if it's doable or not.

I always thought the 350Z looked like an appliance on wheels...and I've been unimpressed when I ran them (to say the least)

way to educate a naive kid, Rich

Heh my wife wants a 350Z. I don't like them much but it will make a good DD for her. I let her drive my Lightning the other day, and after riding with her I am surprised I have any tires left
