Killed (somewhat) a slightly modded early 90's Talon Tsi

Not much of a story to go with this. Basically, its my first credible race that I've had with any of my cars. Before now its just been lowly riced out civics and a 94 dodge colt. It started off with this light brownish coloured talon a couple cars in front of me. I've seen the car before around town, and seen him race other cars off the line and totally kill them, mind you they were either civics or neons. He must have seen the aftermarket rims and GTS headlight covers of my car or something and droped back to just behind my front bumper. He took off from there, not letting off for a few seconds. I decided to chase him as it seemed he wanted to play and would actually race me, even though I thought I would have my *** handed to me. There was a couple times when I was able to hear a BOV over the drumming of my exhaust, while his exhaust seemed mostly stock.

Heres were the fun begins. We get onto an open section of 2 lane road and just crusing along at about 65 KM/H (~40mph). He gives the 3 honks to start and we both take off. My car downshifts to second while I think he starts in 3rd. I somehow get a little bit of a jump on him and pretty much stay there through the whole race. We went to about 150km/h (~100mph) and let off. He droped back on the 1 shift he did, probably 3rd to 4th. Not the biggest kill ever, but I did beat him. And to think, I thought I was going to lose.

Oh, and did I mention this was in my 97 T-Bird? Not bad for a heavy 2 door coupe eh? Mods to the T-Bird are in my sig.

Nice kill. I'm thinkin about buying a '95 (?) Mark VIII myself. They can be made quick easy and still be pimp as hell with their 4500+lb asses.

I managed to find out who owns the talon. Turns out the guy burned out 4 or 5 clutches in the last year cause he can't drive stick worth a ****. Oh well, my land barge isn't too bad. Its a t-bird, without too many options on it. Basically just the basics like power drivers seat and power mirrors. I figure the car weighs in at about 3600-3700lb. The car really pulls at lower speeds, it'll surprise ya if I jump on it at a light, but thats probably due to the 280lb-ft of torque the engine puts out. Only 205hp though. It walks away from most civics and other similar cars, which is good enough for me. My 7 will be the mustang killer.

Try 3700-3800 stock. Aluminum motor, largely plastic/fiberglass body, pretty much no back seat (if the front was comfortable, the seats were over the front half of your rear passenger's feet) The earlier models are lighter and faster. My '94 beat a few '95 LSC (+10hp) models because of weight and gearing. If you want that car to move you're gonna want to change the gearing and put a shift kit in it. Most races I was in ended during 2nd gear... which stretched out to a lengthy 105mph.

Races from 30mph were fun though. It put that motor right in its powerband. One shift from 30 and you're good to 105.

I love smoking ricers blasting Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts or some **** like that. Plenty of stereos might beat the factory JBL in that thing (if you get premium sound), but the soundproofing of the vehicle made it sound better than most aftermarket systems I've heard.

You don't want to put a 'shift kit' on those trannys, you want to do the J-Mod which involves drilling the transmissions valve body out...you put a B&M Shift Kit or whatever on there and say bye bye to your clutches

Yeah, shows how much I know about modding autos . I imagine you could MTX swap it too, but I don't know if that wouldn't be incredibly difficult. Things are fairly cramped on those cars as is. I'd always looked into the shift-kit because if I was modding that specific Mark 8 I wouldn't have cared how long it lasted. I never looked into it too much though... I was young and it was automatic. As far as trannys go I'm most familiar with the Muncie M-22 or 21, I forget which. One was fairly standard, the other was only found in 1964 Corvettes which is the one my father had in his '68 Nova. I remember it was nicknamed the "rockcrusher." Regardless... a 10.2 second Nova tends to crush rock-crushers with enough clutch dumps . We musta rebuilt that thing 5 times (he owned that car for a LONG time).
