Oh man....such haters...Guys, come on...we're better than that...no one on nsxprime makes fun of the Rx-7s. (BTW, I don't know who the hell NSX1 is). I used to own an FD and absolutely loved it. I had to sell it because I couldn't afford it breaking down on me anymore.

I bought a used NSX and haven't looked back. Sure its not as fast as the FD, but to me, especially when buying a 2nd hand car, reliability is very important. I wanted a car that was very similar to the FD in "coolness", but since its my daily, the NSX was the obvious choice. I had an S2000 too, but sold it because it didn't compare to the FD.

What happens if someone here buys an 80's testarossa? No one will flame him 'cause its slow, expensive to maintain, bad MPG..etc. Don't try the "ferrari has more soul" bit, because I see Mazda the same way I see the other japanese brands. They haven't quite gotten there yet in terms of attaining a "soul"...

I love engine sound, having the motor behind the head, the feel of the shifter...Just my 2cents. Loved the FD, loved the NSX.

Your daily driver is an NSX?? I feel bad when my C5 gets rained on, let alone an NSX.

i think that was the main point of this thread being started. and about it being cool, in no way do i think an nsx looks even nearly as pretty. and if you actually know how to deal with an fd as soon as you get it and take the precautions you wont really have so many problems.

i dont think whether its a mazda or not matters to a lot of people. to me its just the FD. and i personally would rather get an nsx than a testarossa.

it does take a lot of dedication to own and care for a used FD though. i dont think a lot of these people would have one for so long if they didnt feel so strongly about the car.

i think it is interesting that an nsx is made of aluminum in an attempt to shed weight and is still heavier than an FD. and being an MR that is sooo light, it does what, .88g skidpad? kind of like an rx-8, that SEDAN? a HONDA nsx is not an "exotic" even if it has that lambo look that many MRs have. FDs have more of an alfa/ferrari, non-lambo italian look. just look at that new alfa the competitione or whatever, much of it look EXACTLY like an FD. i guess the $30k pricetag didnt make it look very exotic but the cost of "reliability" makes up for that.

i might be wrong doesnt the nsx get spanked by GTRs, supras, and FDs in japan? thats the idea i get from seeing race results.

im wondering how much nsx parts cost in the case that someone does blow their engine or want to upgrade...? i heard they were expensive.

As I stated, I know the NSX is no competition when it comes to speed or acceleration. Second of all, I do know how to deal with the Fd. I took care of it as soon as I got it. I did all the reiliability mods, but still the parts were just of poorer quality, hence their ability to beat porsche and other exotics when they first came out at an affordable price. I'm talking about other stuff, like the cv joints, tranny synchros, , cats, alternator. The injectors had to be replaced because of all the excessive heat, the hoses were replaced along with the cracked FPD. This FD of mine had 80K on it and 30K on the second engine.

The NSX I currently have has 140K and nothing had to be replaced except for a clutch and other routinge maintenance stuff such as the water pump and timing belt. Its got a near perfect compression, no leaks or anything. The leather is in great condition too. One problem it does have is the interior bubbling on the dash trim....very similar to the '93s.

Having being trained as a car designer, I must admit the Rx-7 is a much prettier design. Actually the best looking car out of Japan. I feel the NSX has more of an "exotic" look, but isn't as beautiful. I've always had a thing for low cars...GT40, Lambo etc. If the Rx-7 was of a better quality, I wouldn't have ever sold it. I'm sure the same goes for many other ex. FD owners. It was a money pit, and one that I couldn't afford at that time.

NSX parts are expensive, but luckily they were so well built that most of the motors that were blown were either done so by overreving or too much boost.

I don't want to start a flame war. Just wanted to let you guys know that we're not all like NSX91 or whatever his name is.

Hey Batman, didn't you use to own an NSX too? I remeber you buying an FD motor from my friend Les. He was putting in a V8 into his Rx-7.

well i agree an FD costs as much as an exotic when you replace everything thats cheap plastic and rubber with aluminum and stuff like that. but it is a mazda after all.

I agree. Except for the all aluminum body. If the Rx-7 had better reliability, it would have been as close to perfect as you can get.

Here is all i have to say about the NSX. If i had 70-90K for a car, id get a Viper, and utterly dominate the NSX in every category, including reliability and ease of driving, and head turning/prestiege. So ya, thats my 2 cents.

I was looking at purchasing a '96 and up GTS, but I couldn't afford it I really wanted one...but for a daily driver it probably wasn't such a good idea anyways.

Shame on Acura.

As far as price, the NSX ain't priced or HP as an exotic car by today's standards.

Even the new purported NSX is going to be a shamefull 350hp, less than GT3 that is NA.
I have a friend that works at the Honda design center here (in fact all my friends are car designers...Porsche, Audi, Honda, etc..and no, they don't work at dealers) He heard from the chief designer that the HSC will NOT have 350 HP...He said: "Rest assure it wil be well over 400". This is info that no one is supposed to know yet, but it will do more to the car industry than what the NSX did in '91 for this generation.

He wouldn't go into specifis about engine details (hybrid, v6 what ever), but the front will remain the same except for the front lower intakes....they will be cleaned up a bit. The "enzo B pillar" will change (they had no idea the Enzo would look like that since the Enzo just came out surprisingly) and the definite change is the rear tailights.

I hope there will be some definite Rx-7 news soon so I can start to decide which one I better start saving up for.

I think batman meant you're kidding that the viper is more reliable and easier to drive than the nsx - i would have to agree - the viper is by all accounts a bitch to drive in everyday situations

I'm not sure about the hybrid thing either, but he said not too worry. It won't be a laughing stock. I also asked about the width and depth of the shoulder and whether they were gonna keep it. He said they will try, but since Japan has tight restrictions on width, they might decrease interior width (similar to S2000 size) that will let them keep the shoulders. He had no clue about the doors.

Yep. When I was looking for Vipers, I came across threads regarding the earlier Rt10s catching on fire, and the amount of heat that leaked into the cabin.

When living in Philly, my neigboor used to valet cars for a fancy restaurant. He said he never took the viper off third gear...it took off in third gear and was sufficient for stop n go city driving.
