Killed at the last corner......=(

I know this was an irresponsible drive, but once the pedal hit the metal, I became to focused to stop myself. Luckily, no one was hurt.

For a better look at the road, head over to maps.google.com (Select Hybrid for the best view)

Start point (Enter this into the text box): mount kisco road and hillandale avenue, white plains, ny

End point: mount kisco road and king street, armonk, ny

The route is the 3.7 mile road of NY-22 going north.

My car: 1989 FC GTUs w/ APEX’i intake and an exhaust leak =P
Other car: GDB WRX w/ a cat-back (I couldn’t tell anything else)

As the light turned green, I pulled ahead normally, but spirited, shifting at 3400 rpms and I notice this WRX sticking to my bumper, at this time, I decide to play around with him a little, so I go WOT in 3rd gear and start pulling away little by little in the corners. To my annoyance, whenever we hit a short straight, he reels me back in with his straight-line power. This little back and forth battle goes on for awhile, but I get a great exit on the two corners before the reservoir bridge. Across the bridge, I redline 3rd and hit 120 as I head into the slight uphill left. I’m pulling away from him at this point, but on the downhill, a blind moderate right hander is ahead. Slowing down excessively, in case there’s traffic ahead, I take the corner much slower than I should have and let him back in the race. He starts reeling me in on the next left-hander, and for some reason, I have a mental freeze. I don’t close off the inside on the final right hander and he takes it, lining up even with me at the exit. All that’s left is straightaway, and both of us going WOT, he pulls ahead of me. Once he pulls ahead, I let off the gas, and flash my hazards, signifying my defeat.

In hindsight, if I went across and cut off the inside, I would’ve been able to hold him off until the braking point at the end of the straight. But I know that construction crews are regularly around there working and took the safe way out. That cautious decision, plus the one on the blind right hander led to my defeat. Not to mention the lack of power on an NA FC. =(

I feel ashamed because, as far as I could tell, I had the tires and the cornering ability to win. If I went ***** to the wall, and not cared about rear-ending cars, or construction trucks pulling out, I could've won, but that would've made this drive, which was reckless enough, to borderline homicidal. =(

Well, regardless of what you view it as (blind corners during the day suck, at least at night you can see lights...) you were being responsible enough to think while you were racing. Even though your car didnt win, your concience did.

Roen, you did the right thing. So you lost a race you are 95% sure you could have won. At least you didn't wreck your car and kill yourself, or other people.

Funny, I saw the address and one of our members with a modded FD lives in that area. Like, 30 seconds from where you were, lol.

thanks.....It was fun though on the open corners where you could see around to the exit, 80-100 mph in the corners was great. I was surprised though that I wasn't able to pull away from the WRX in the first couple of corners though, I always heard that they understeered so I was confused. Maybe that's why I got such a great jump right before the reservoir bridge.
