i nose a modded c6
i'm pulling out of the local bmw dealer after wondering if an m3 is for me instead of the time bomb when a burgandy c6 goes flying by. i pull out and finally catch him about a mile down the road at a light that's about a half mile before an intersection with interstate 87. light goes green, i leap but bog and have to feather the clutch. second gear and i've got my front fender at his front bumper when a pick-up merges into my lane and i have to jam on the brakes.
i end up at the next light next to the guy, both of us in left turn lanes to get on the interstate. he rolls his window down and i tell him i had him until the truck pulled out. the guy says no way because he was spinning the tires on his car. my response is "how are you spinning the tires when the car has traction control?" he then claims he was "overdriving" the traction control. wtf?! the car has some sticker on it that says redline and something else.
as we're sitting there talking while the light is red, the guy claims to have cams, headers and full exhuast and an intake with a reprogram and about 455 at the wheels.
i tell him that he'll see that i got him when we get on the highway. he laughs. light turns green (we're behind a bunch of cars) and we finally weave through traffic to get a run. he's in front of me when he takes off. i'm in third at about 5k rpms and am right behind, into fourth and i'm lifting slightly so i don't get too close. shut down just before redline in fourth with him right in front of me. did a couple of more short pulls with him in front with similar results and finally, he moves over and i drive by and get off the road.
i believe i could have passed him or at least nosed by if we were side by side.
my car: 94, streetport, 3mm apex seals, dp, high flow cat, rb cb, arc intake, greddy smic, hybrid upgraded twins (one side pfs one side bnr1) running full non-seq, alum flywheel, c.m. 6 puck clutch, pullies, no airpump, emissions, etc., power fc. i was running 10lbs of boost on a stock map as the car has not been tuned yet. (i know i'll blow it up like that eventually, so thanks for thinking of it. it will be tuned by steve kan on the 18th at 14-15 psi)

umm last time I checked the new c6s are hitting about 350 to the wheels stock. I dont see how you can get 100hp increase from a full exhaust, intake and a CAM (yes our engines only have 1 cam). sounds like dude was either a dumbass and or a liar.

there are different modes on the onboard computer of the new vette which allow you to adjust the computer according to your driving, he could have been in track mode which allows you to spin the wheels more exc. there are severall different settings and can even be adjusted for road surfaces and conditions

I am not trying to bash you but I raced a C6 w/ intake and exhaust and only took it by 2 car lengths on the highway. Was this one manuel or auto? I believe it if it was an auto. Maybe the guy I raced was a better driver? I shut down after he finally let out . It was an extremely high rate of speed ( over 150).I feel he got a slight jump at the start but I reeled him in and went by slowly. Nice run by the way!

Even if the guy really did have 455hp (which I doubt) its about the same as what the stock C6 Z06 will put to the wheels. He was a dumbass.

Precisely. The cam + bolt-only record for the LS1 is nearly 490 rwhp. 455 rwhp from an LS2 is entirely reasonable.
As far as TC goes- how do you know he didn't turn it off?
And you CAN spin the tires through traction control. Especially in first gear where the TC threshhold is high. Since you raced from a stoplight, I would not be suprised if he's telling the truth.
My car lacks the power to really spin through second gear's TC, but I'm sure it's very possible. With the TC off, I can spin through the top of second easily.

i believe his exact words were " i overdrove the traction control", whatever the hell that means, so i don't believe it was off.
