First Real Kill

Picked up my '01 Fd in December, and I havent had a single real run in it yet. All I've had is a bunch of guys in lancers (not evo's), a old guy in an Alfa so forth. While I don't mind running anyone at all (and I did race those guys) I was getting a little impatient to see how it would go in a decent race.

Interestingly, I think that the rotary has a much better reputation in Australia, they are very very common in drag racing, and then there is the whole bathurst beating porshe thing. So....the point is that I have had the chance to run a couple of the local V8 engined sedans, like the GTO that the US gets, but in a 4 door. But they have all seemed to not want to race. I am thinking this is because of the rotary's reputation down under. I had a young male in a 260Kw (convert to HP??) V8 NOT race me the other night in the middle of the night on quiet highway. WTF?? unusual. In my old WRX these guys always seem to want to race.

Which bring me to the afore mentioned kill. I have only a couple of mods. Blitz intake and full exhaust. I have been driving around like an old lady because my boost is spiking and I won't have the PFC in until next week. But....I was driving up the freeway, and I took my exit onto a three lane highway, and just as I am approaching the red light to go onto the highway a blue ford falcon XR6 Turbo blows past me only to stop at the red light next to me. These cars are a fairly respectable performance car, they have 240kw, 500+nm of torque. They run to 62mph in about 6 seconds and run a quarter in about 14 standard. This one wasnt modded at all, but that take to mods very well.

I shouldn't be racing, but I couldn't resist, even though I knew my boost would spike. So light goes green he goes WOT immediately, and I ease off the line ( I am tentative with my still new toy) . He moves about to the front of my bumper to his rear. I his WOT and first and then second turbo kicks in and then I hit second at even. I wind out second to about 7k, but it was all over. I was probably one car length ahead.

I was absolutley grinning fromm ear to ear. He did a fly by, but he was easy pickings for the 7. It was freaking great.

For reference, in my old WRX (00 model) with exhaust and intake I ran a XR6 turbo and was pretty much dead even. so this a good out come. I was amazed by how easy I won, and therefore by how mcuh faster my 7 was than my WRX

BTW as much as street racing can be safe this was safe.

Thanks for the conversion. I felt like I was in physics class again with all the standard units.

Edit: Great kill. The 7 can't loose. And it's good to hear that an fd can run better than a subie.
