Project D - The 106 trap came from a 13.1 run, 1.84 60' (4.5k launch with lots of slippage lol) Im looking to get a new clutch and break into the 12's. This was with my boost at 14psi btw (along with the downpipe/airfilter) 140k on the orig. motor, tranny, t-case.

Not bad @ all. So far my best time at the track was a 13.1 also. But It's taken me a bit more than DP, and air filter lol. My current setup should be good enough to break into the 12's but i'm not the best driver lol. When i get some better rubber i will be shooting for sub 12.5's I don't know the trap on my 13.1 run but my others runs were trapping 109 consistantly. i really need more practice.

Its very different switching from AWD to lightweight RWD - but its a blast, even though Im learning. I can toss the FD on command, but I can also loose traction when Im not ready for it.......Time will tell. lol

well welcome to the club man, It's a good idea to research b4 modding so you are on the right track. I can only imagine the difference between the VR4 and FD but i bet it's night and day. oh yea I upped my boost a little also(13psi) Have fun with the FD man, I've had mine almost a year now and I still grow more and more attached to it each day.

i just want to back up the power to weight deal:
take an FC TII engine, put it in an FB... go break in to the 12's. nuff said.
my car probably is only making 200rwhp. but it only weighs 2150. i beat a 380rwhp 240sx.

weight does play a factor, but its very minimal. I believe every 100 lbs can cut .1 second off your quarter mile. Even so, putting more weight onto the rear would also improve track time as well because you won't have to be precise with launching if you have enough pushing down on the rear end. As I said, if you took a stock t2 with a t2 rear end and tranny and put it up against a stock t2 with an n/a tranny and n/a rear end. Which would win? Obviously the one with shorter gearing giving it a hell of an advantage over in a quarter mile or straight roll.

Just some context, I have yet to take my VR-4 to the track but I've pulled on several cars trapping ~110, including a Ferrari 355 GTS and an STi with some sort of upgraded turbo. I have i/d/t/15lbs.
Although power to weight ratio plays the largest role in determining how quickly a car can accelerate, I believe it is slightly more complicated than that. The 'power' always quoted, vis-a-vis "this car has xxx hp", is referring to the peak horsepower, not the average horsepower over the full RPM range. Gearing, therefore, plays a large role in determining how the available power is used. Horsepower itself is only the engine's torque being applied via gearing to the wheels over an RPM range. That being said, a car with a much lower power/weight ratio may be able to out accelerate another car with a higher power/weight ratio depending on the intial and final speeds of the competition.
In any event, I see no reason why a lightweight car with less HP could theoretically out-accelerate a heavier car with more HP. With gearing, avg power, and power/weight ratio taken under consideration, as well as the same variables concerning torque instead of HP, it is not impossible for a TII to beat a VR-4 in a race from one velocity to another. Im sure he means in a drag race. Obviously it ALWAYS comes down to driver - and if you are comparing an FD to a VR4, stock for stock (quartermile wise) it will be very close, with the upper hand going to the VR4. Judging by looking at the avg.'s on both sides.

Actually, a 3000GT won at pikes peak in 1993 and 1994. check it out.
This is neat too.
Another rally 3000GT.... so I guess there have been a few.
It looks like RX-7's have also been rallied ... 1985 SCCA Rally Champion?
From this site in the "Bridgestone Supercar Series", you can see the results where a Stealth finished way ahead of the pack, including 300ZX (2nd place) and RX-7 (3rd place).
Neat stuff, never knew that about either car.

For example:
A stock TII weighs around 2800lbs. Let's say you did *insane* hypothetical weight-reduction and got the car to weigh in at a shocking 800lbs
Using that "theory" the car would go from running a stock 15.2 quarter-mile time at 2800lbs, to running only a 13.2 at 800lbs...
An 800lb frame using a stock 13bt making 165whp would go MUCH faster than 13.2, lol.
Like FB II already said, drop the 13bt into a low 2000lb FB and 12's wouldn't be unreasonable.

Anybody could do drag racing. ANYBODY that knows how to shift can drag race a car. Even my Grandma knows how to drag race. WoW there’s really some MAD skills YO in drag racing.
I think both car FD and 3KGT handles excellent at a track. I use to own a 3kgt, and really… there's nothin' wrong with them. I don’t even read the kill section, because it’s plain out fucken retarded…… “I pull up to this ….blah, blah, blah… car,. I downshift and put mad car lengths on him.” WHO GIVES a ****. I wanna hear a REAL race.... Not a waste of bandwidth about how fast your car can go STRAIGHT on public roads and highways….

Reading this thread makes me miss my Galant VR-4 (#439 of 2000 made in 1991). It was pretty quick, even more so with the mods I had on it. Definately from a stop it was so much fun to play with people.. thinking it was the FWD galant...
The best part was the wannabe rally stuff I would do on empty logging roads.... any chance I had and loved it to death.. I just wanted to try an FD before everyone stacked them into walls.. so I sold it to a friend and picked up an FD.
All you guys bashing one another should realise how great both are, if not most of those performance Japanese sports cars out there... Its all in good fun anyways.
The best part was the wannabe rally stuff I would do on empty logging roads.... any chance I had and loved it to death.. I just wanted to try an FD before everyone stacked them into walls.. so I sold it to a friend and picked up an FD.

curvy roads the fd has advantage because they are much lighter than the vr4s but goin straight it really does depend on just the driver . i mean u never really get a good launch all the time u know .
