AT FD vs. Blue Evo on highway

I was cruising on the highway doing 70 mph and an Evo comes flying doing about 100. I floored it when he was almost next to me but only got 3rd gear, and he passed me by 2 cars as I was gaining speed, but then stopped pulling. I started gaining on him and reeling him in. It was an oriental looking guy with his friend. The higher rpm I reached the harder I was gaining on him. I flew by him with a look like: "Where you going?" but he didn't look at me. It was a nice Evo. It's funny because I am automatic and running 8 psi. I am pretty sure it was bone stock, my car is not fast at all. I guess at 110+ mph the 4wd hurts more that it helps. I did the same thing a few days ago to a blue Lightning but I was in my 5 speed big turbo FD so the he couldn't even read my tag. I call them "flybye attempts". The Evo was fun.

Of course it's all fiction

It's not my car you're seeing, I never park my white car.
In my opinion 7 psi with exhaust and intake is exactly as fast as bone stock, but some may disagree.

My AT ran a best of 13.9@103 and a worst of 14.1 @ 99 all below 10psi, but with several mickey mouse mods, such as pulleys, plug wires, restricted exhaust and "hot" air intake.

Since I wrote this, I also slapped up a new (paper tag) Chevy truck. SST-R I think it said, any way the fast one. It seemed like he had close to 400 hp because he was about as fast as a lightning but I kept him from passing me despite his best efforts. Ugly truck but fast.

I also have a white FD, 95 auto. I recently installed a midpipe and downpipe and restricted exhaust. How fast do you think I would do on the 1/4 mile?

Nice flybye denial. Just curious, why are you running 8 psi? Do you have trouble with your turbo setup or did you limit your boost.

I hope you got a EMS " engine management system" with the full exhaust
you just put on your 95 FD. if not, becareful. You are asking for a blown
motor.

and to answer your question. A auto FD with just a full exhaust. Hmmm
i would say mid 13's.

I'm still waiting for my AFC and FC commander. Also, my next mod is greddy front mount intercooler and intake.

Also, do you think I could hang with an EVO, SRT4 on a roll or from a stop with the mod that I have on the car now?

Thanks for responding...

Bro, Ive been running the full exhaust with the stock ECU for 4 years now. I just RECENTLY got the wastegate ported as I was getting boost creep. As long as you dont do anything else to the engine "air-flow" you should be safe. Just make sure the boost stays at 10 or below.

Also, stock for stock a FD should be almost all of those "new" sport compacts from a roll. From a stop an EVO or STI is a different story.

The lightning did the flybye.

Sorry I didn'y make myself clear. The Lightning tried to do the same thing as the Evo did from behind ( that doesn't sound right ) but I was in a different FD that is way faster so he never caught up despite momentum and the element of suprise. ( He must have been real suprised when I disappeared.)

I am running 8 psi because I have been experimenting with a number of setups on my and my best friends bolt on AT FDs, but have got mixed results ranging from low/lazy boost to overboosting/fuel cut. I find that the best setup (that I can come up with) is either bone stock or full bolt-on with a restricted exhaust. My car has a 2" restrictor cone between the cat-back and midpipe and boosts a strong 8 psi with 10 psi spikes. I am confident that it is a 13 second car. My best friends (also 93 AT FD) runs 10 psi with an unrestricted exhaust and Profec Type S on minimum boost and gain with spikes to 13+ where of course he lets off. He is in the process of installing a restriction then using the Profec to tune it to a smooth 10 psi. I am in the process of installing the profec and trying to achieve the same thing. Everybody likes to lecture us about it's not supposed to creep and lalala, but the fact is: face it, a stock wastegate AT WILL creep with exhaust. I don't want to pull the snails to port the WG and some people say it doesn't even work, although I would try it if it wasn't so hard. Sorry about the long story but I'm just explaining why the restriction is allowing for an average boost of 8 psi.

By the way I think you would absolutely smoke a stock Evo with your 95 modded FD, unless he is modded or you go from a dig. A 0-60 launch is his, a roll is yours.

Good Kill. Funny how the guy did not want to look at you when you passed him by, he probably did not notice you were going to pass him, hahaha.

As others have said (and as I have PERSONAL experience!) do NOT try to take one from a dead stop....uh uh uh, no no no! From a roll....it ought to be pretty much even up to 80 or so, then you will pull HARD on them, losing them completely at 120 - 130 and watching them flat go bye-bye at 140+ if you stay in it that long. Just mash the gas and hold on, and if you watch from the corner of your eye you'll see them sort of catch and nearly pass, then lose a bit as they shift each time as you increase speed. The linear acceleration of an auto FD on full boost WILL prevail.
