FD vs 03 Cobra

I decided to go for a cruise today before work and on my way back home I see a red snake exiting the highway I needed to enter. It was lowered on some nice black rims with a polished lip. It was very clean. he even had #s on the back window as if he recently ran it at the track, and tag said "VNMOUS". Needless to see I missed my exit When he was merging on he gunned it and shot around some traffic. I could hear his exhaust from several cars back and it sounded good.

I catch up to him me in the fast lane him in the slow and he gooses it a few times I did the same to let him know I'm game. After clearing some traffic we had enough room to stretch our legs a bit.

He pulls even with me at about 65mph and his window is down now. I point for him to go but i guess he didn't want the move because he pointed for me to go first I was in the meet of third gear and punched it. He went right after me and from I was able to pull about one car in third and in 4th i began to see him in my rearview mirror. I shut down at about 135 with about a car and a half and still slowly but steadily walking away. When the mustang caught up I gave him a thumbs up and I think he said "that thing's fast" but it was hard to hear at highway speeds. He exited the highway shortly after and I followed hoping to get an idea of what mods he had if any. But he never pulled into any of the open parking lots and I didn't wanna freak him out by following him around town so I just called it a day and went home.

***cliffnotes***
one race from 65-135
FD pulled about 1.5 cars

My mods are T04R , 15psi this run
The Terminator : catback? ,maybe more?

i think that guy is around the forums. its highly modded. but i mean it would have to be to hang with a single turbo 7.

EDIT: actually its not that modded. a stock sequential car should be able to take it.its not an 03.

Nice kill man. I've ran an 04, with catback and DR's at the track and he's running high 12.80's.

just curious... how do you know this is the same car? the car in the video, thats a mid 90's mustang, nearly impossible to mistake for an 03 cobra.

It's a pretty common plate to have on a cobra, I bet it's taken in every state.

Matty, That is deffinately not the same car. The snake I race was a Terminator (03/04). and I beleive it had VA plates.

Montego: I put down 417hp @16psi

Taha ha, I was ganna say... you would have murdered the stang in the video... 115mph would have been nowhere near you. the 03 cobra in question most likely was trapping over 120 mph. good kill.

I know we don't need as much hp to run with the snakes but does anyone know a good guesstimate of how much power we need to run even with them?

For example: A buddy of mine ran even(barely pulling actually) with a 500hp supra in his 400hp FD.

a reasonable estimate would be to calculate power to weight ratio of each car.

well, supras weigh 3600 lbs. and 03 cobras are over 3800 lbs of pig. id say hes over 500 whp easy. i pulled on a 459whp 03 cobra with about 345-350whp in my fd. the gap is fairly large because the sheer weight of the cobras. under 300whp in an fd should run even with a stock 03 cobra.

Nice kill. Yeah, there's a guy here in VA that sounds exactly like the same car. He attends the meets around my area.

The cobra you ran probably had intake, exhaust, a moderately sized pulley, and tune. Basically standard mods. 03-04 cobras weigh in at around 3600 lbs, about the same as a supra. The verts are a bit heavier. They are very easy to make fast. It takes a decent sized single turbo rx-7 running about a bar to run even with mine. Nothing on twins has even been close. If you want to beat a cobra your chances will be better at higher speeds. The FD has superior aerodynamics and the stock eaton blower runs out of steam. With a decent driver the instant torque and full boost the turbo lag will cost you off the line.

What's up Ihor? I figured you of all people would be able to give the best guess to his mods having owned both a single FD and now your terminator.

I haven't been to the track yet but I have practiced launching a few times and to my suprise i really don't feel much if any lag when going from a dig. The nittos bite pretty hard launchng from about 6k or so and at that RPM the turbo is blazing away. Then again I've never been in a car with instant torque so i can't really compare.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the cobras I run into are rolling on all-seasons to give me a chance lol.

Perhaps stock twins. You barely edged me out when I was at 12 psi on a few 40-125 pulls, and you were smart to back out of it at 125

I'm bringing my FD by your house tomorrow to hang out, maybe it's time for a rematch at 18 psi ?

dude, with 385 whp on stock twins i walked hard on a 03 cobra making around your hp. i actually pulled slightly on the same one when i ran lower boost. of coursemy car weighed 2627lbs.

edit: wait, the one i was against was running more like 469whp. i miss read your numbers earlier. still 410whp weighing nearly 1000 lbs less should walk an 03 w/ less than 500whp. 1klbs is alot of wieght... am i wrong??

ive seen many things saying the 03's are over 3800 lbs. where are yhou gettin gyour info of 3600? not trying to start a fight, i just want to know if my info on wieght is wrong.
