FC vs. Z

Me and a few of my friends went out to settle some disputes about whose cars were faster after school. It was kind of like a tag team race. Me and my friend with a 84 vette (L81) vs. two freshmen one with a 02 stang GT, and the other with 89 300zx.
I chose to race the z, considering i used to own one until the rex won me over. I really figured it would be a close race. So we lined up, had the kid with the vette flag us and we took off. The z jumped the gun, so at first i was a little worried. I spun a little, but when i got tracting i pulled about 1 car lenght by the end of first. About three by the end of second. Then bus lengths by third and fourth. The z was just a waste of gas. (I'm sure the stang would be another story.)

-The vette beat the stang after the my race.

Good kill. Those 300zx's are a bit excessive in their weight. I would like to know which of your 7's you were racing in, though.

na and turbo in stock trim are not that different. I HAD AN 85T when it was stock I believe they are only rated at 185 at the flywheel. In a 3500 pound car that =slower than granny with her walker. There is only a 10-15 hp advantage with the turbo over the na.

WRONG. Turbos are rated at 205HP and 235TQ while NA's are rated at 165HP and 175TQ and all 84-89 Z's weigh between 3100-3300lbs.

Nice kills. Are you in high school? How do the freshmen get a hold of such cars? Were they driving without a license? Not flaming, just inquiring.

Yeah, I just automatically assumed it was college freshmen, that is a pretty good question.

Nice kill. I'm assuming you did this in the GXL Turbo and NOT the 88 auto? Reason being is that I'm quite confident that an auto S4 FC wouldn't stand a chance against a Z, even if it is heavier (by what, a whole 200-300lbs).

I will bet he has a stick due to the fact he SPUN alittle out the gate. Good luck doing that in an auto. The funny part is how SLOW the buttstang is. A 84 vette was a total smog dog, and more than likly it has 1xx,xxx+ more miles!!!! GD mustangs are SLOW.

For one, we can get our license at 15 here in Montana. Two, they have those nice cars because their parents are filthy rich. I was happy to put them in their place.

And ya i was driving my TII 5spd. And the vette has an L81 in it. It's real quick when it's running right.

I'm stock so i should be pushing about 185hp, but i have about 35psi in one of my chambers so i would say around 170-175hp.
I just raced the stang. It was hella close. First gear i was down by a few inches. Second gear he slightly pulled. Then bam! i misshift third and he pulls a car and a half, but after i get it in, i almost catch him by the time we shut down which was at 100mph. I'm really surprised at how much top end rx7's have for how little amount of tourque they have. Cause that stang has a good 100 more hp than i do, so wouldn't you think he should have dominated up top?

well, 100 mph is where you shut off so you were still a little ways from top end. of course you gotta consider that and how he is geared as well. and if its just a stock muskrat then naw he dont have much in the top end, muskrats are usually geared for take-off. I always hear people talk about horsepower like it is the equivalent of speed. but the way you gear a car has more to do with how fast it goes and how fast you get there then anything. my bro has a camaro thats a nine second car but he cant go more then like 125-130 in the top end with 650-700hp. but he would eat my *** in a 1/4 mile race against my 900 hp 71 cobra jet pure evil torino i had that got stolen a few weeks ago. but if we were on the highway with no end in site after 1/2 a mile he'd never see me again. because quite simply my cobra was geared like a nascar and not a dragster. top end on the cobra was well over 200. no i aint talkin out my *** either. i dont like goin quick for a few seconds i wanna fly for a minute or 30.

someone smarter then me could explain it better but theres also the weight/hp/gear formula that might make a heavier car have to have 100 or more hp on your 7 to keep up,but i honestly couldn't tell you how to figure that up.

the z only runs 4-6 lbs stock. tell him to crank it to 14lbs with a intercooler and he will be alot faster. I just got a 85 turbo z and pulled the motor to put in a vw camper bus. it should be fun. good job
