FB vs. 86 coupe ?

A friend and I want to race our cars as I think they are very similer in about all catagories. The race will be between my 7 (mods in sig) vs. corrola coupe, twin cam, fully striped interior along with other weight reductions, upgrade clutch and a rod knock, lol. the planned race is going to be for $5 woohoo and held on a very twisty section of road, I guess we are going to do it 'togue style lol' as both our cars are slow in a straight line and we both know it.

The 86 owner says he is a good driver, I have never seen him drive but he totalled his C36 amg being dumb so I kinda question this statement, he told me his 86 weighs 1800 pounds with all the interior taken out which I question too. Other things are to know is that he has a rod knock in the engine and crappy tires while I have g-force KD's

I should be able to beat him imo as I have been learning some racing techniques and been to an auto x or two in my time but I have never really raced anyone before and this is ajust for fun race but its going to be competitive as I still have pride, what is anyones experience with 86 coupes ? Should I do anything to my car in preperation for the blast from the past race ?

thanks

btw I'll let you guys know the outcome in a few months when I bring my seven out of its winter hibernation

My friend has an AE86 that we put against my FB. I think mine is probably a little faster then yours since it has a pretty aggressive street port. I think his best time with TRD internals, headers and full exhaust, intake, LSD, etc, is around 16 or just under. My FB runs high 14's so it wasn't much of a race, but it was kind of fun. You should race him for fun anyway and tape it.

this sounds like a dangerous waste of time.

you doubt his driving ability, his engine is shot and his tires are crap. how do you know he's not going to plow into you? if you go through with it, be careful.

ae86 curb is around 2300 lbs iirc. i doubt you could save 500 lbs from taking out some plastic, carpeting and sound deadening .

i'm assuming he meant the rwd version

in 1986 there were four flavors in the US

AWD wagon
FWD sedan
RWD coupe
RWD hatch

confusing enough for ya?

^haha yeah we know their slow, thats why its a race on some tight twisty roads to show chassie performance and driver skill.

not all 1st have lsd but my FB does indeed have lsd since I swaped one in to replace the open diff / drum brake winning combnation that it originally had.

And I really question the weight reduction # my friend gave me, I find it hard to believe any thing over 200-250 pounds.

not even that much

if all he did is strip interior + sound deadening, he'd be lucky to lose 75 lbs from the car.

if he went all out and took out radio, speakers, fan blower, etc., i'd be surprised if it was over 125 lbs.

a/c and p/s (if it even came with it ), gut the engine bay, take out the back seat, cut out the doors.... might get 200 off of it, certainly not 500 though.

i know alot about corollas and learning more about the 1st gen. You should smoke him. He will lose more weight if he takes off his doors a rear window also lol. the stock 4age bluetop has around 112hp while a 12a is around 115hp not that hp matters, its all about tourqe and rotories lack that. You should still win. Take all the stuff out of your car and make sure your car is hella warm. he might beat you at the launch because of his tourqe over your car but you should hunt him down if you dont get into a turn right away. he probly thinks hes some badass drifter so let him. he will probly try and drift all the turns to show off and then **** up so if you get behind him stay close and wait for him to mess up i guess and then pass him.

if its the gts then he also has lsd.

I hope he does not hit your car. If you lose because you did not want to crash then race him strait line. I know you can turn up the richness on the carb try this but not alot and see what happens on your own time before the race. just remeber where you had it when you go to change back. Im not sure but you might be able to turn the lid on your intake houseing (works for some cars) upside down then put the nut back on. This increases airflow and add a richer carb + a tune up. You should smash him if hes stock and only has no insides. he has a bad engine so you will probly be fine. remember most people that only drive one car thinks it the **** and nothing can beat them. Most of all relax. good luck and let us know what happens.
