Beat an SR20DET swapped 240.

Coming out of the grocery store today there was a balck s13 240 pulling into the parking lot. Didn't really mean much to me, but he tapped the gas and it was very loud. When he let off the gas, the oh so familiar sound of compresor surge came from under the hood. Now he had my attention! (SR20DET's are very rare in New England) I gave him a thumbs up and he pulls into a parking space. He gets out and we shot the ****. He showed me under the hood, I looked at the full turbo-back apex'i exhaust. Nice car all in all. He said he needed to tune the factory sensors and it wasn't running to perfection. So he asks if I wanted to race. I really don't approve of it unless it is on an empty highway and even then I like to keep it on the track. But I agreed sinse it wasn't busy at this time of day. We did it on a 4 lane (two each way) road with divider. We went from like 20 mph and I pulled away pretty good (to my surprise). then we hit a stop light and we went from a dig. Again, pulled away pretty easily. I couldn't believe it because my car only has an apex'i cat-back. It was good clean fun and I made a new friend when it was all over!

The exhaust was the guys only mod. He said that he made about 230 HP. That surprised me until he said that was at the flywheel not WHP. The BOV was probably the stock one too. And it was a red top engine. Don't know if there is a difference from the black top.

why u say that? i love my fd and all, but after owning an sr powered 240sx i know enough not to understimate them. they respond well to mods and there are a ton of parts available for them.

When he asked me if i wanted to go, I acctually figured I was going to lose. i thought that the SR had more power than that. From the dig, i had 2-3 car lengths by 50mph.

Haha, are you serious?

thats why they break 12's REAL easy.

hell, if i had a scanner or something i would upload the slip where i pulled my best time of 13.202@111.09mph.

ive got an 89 s13 couoe with full interior.
all ive got done is intake, DP, full exhaust, fmic a boost controller on an s14 sr turbo @ 14psi.

and im not that good of a driver.

soo an sr20 can make 350 whp with 20lbs and upgraded turbos and stuff right?

well i know that FDs can make 350 on the stock twins with around 12lbs

i thought you underestimated the 13b also,i know if i was going to do a 240 swap, id go RB

does the FD have any mods? or just the "reliability" mods

I ran a sr powered S14 a few weeks ago...

He had upgraded to the S15 turbo the T28 full exhaust running like 16 psi i believe and most off all your other turbo bolts ons anyways..

I run stock non seq twins at 12 psi with full exahust thats about it..

From a 40 roll i put about 2-3 cars on him

i really just have a spec stage 2 clutch, an apex'i catback and a gutted down pipe. those are my only power mods.

SR imo is very very good engine. It was designed and intended to be mod friendly. I think you could break over 600 WHP with it (lotta green needed) Of all 2 litter turbo japanese engines, I think SR might be the best engine.

haha right, ive seen bnr modded twins make that kind of power in the boost range, but not STOCK twins, as you know non-sequential twins arent stock.

at 20lbs of boost with a proper turbo will make around 370, if tuned properly well over 400.

i dont underestimate a 13b at all, ive driven my friend modded fd with bnr stage 2's around enough times to know what an fd can do.

but when somone post's soemthing up about sr20det's being **** its rather absurd.

i know everyone has the 7 cant lose mentality.

everyone needs to understadn that any car has alot of potential, it all has to do with how uch money you can throw at it.

dollar for dollar and sr20det is one of the cheapest most potent 4 cylinder engines out there.

as far as the rb swap is concerned you can make alot of power, but its more expensive to build and parts arent as easy to come buy.

takes the practicality out of building a fast 240.

i dont really undrerstand whats the big deal about the 240. I drove one last week with a sr20 motor and a little bigger turbo than stock and i didnt like it that much at all. my fd with non sequential twins was much faster. The thing is why go through all the trouble to do an engine swap to run 13's? When i think about the car it isnt even the best nissan has to offer, i mean its pretty much their integra, and i dont see to many people blowing thier loads over those.

maby its just the fd has raised my expectations of what a performance car should be. just my .02cents
