crazy drift encounter

ok, so i drive a '93 240sx, and soon to be '88 rx7, and i was at work with a buddy, when he decided to go drifting in the back lot. he drives a AE86, with the motor swap, so we head out to the back, and i usually use this back lot as well, but when i do it, i limit myself, and take off real fast before anything happens. so we were running a couple rounds, and he's really crazy at it, almost hit me 3 times, but i stopped, and he came to a stop. when we returned to the front lot, we heard a turbo go off, and next thing you know a 240 coupe pulls up with an RB. so he tells us he wants to join, and my friend says sure, and waves me to my car, but i decided to ride with him. by this time, my other co workers headed out to watch the madness. so we had a pretty large group riled up. about 15 minutes later, we finish, and we were just sitting for another 3 minutes when a cop rolled up. now keep in mind, we have two illegal vehicles here, so i guess someone in the neighborhood made a complaint about drag racing...which we werent doing. well the person in the 240 had weed on him, so i guess the pig's attention was turned towards him, but they were eyeing the AE86 for a while. luckily we got let go because the cop said "im not going to write tickets because i didnt see it happen, but i could have all of you behind jail if those complaints pressed charges for reckless driving. now get out of here." and so with that we all split, and i headed back into work. what a fucken crazy night.

Besides maybe emissions, how are the cars illegal at all? Engine swaps, of the same year or later, are totally legit..

sr20 and rb swaps are illegal because they were never passed by emissions in the u.s.

Yeah I think the po's can actually have you arrested and your car towed for drifting if they give you a reckless driving ticket because reckless is a criminal ticket where I live.

Me and a couple friends decided to "spice up" a lame-*** Nissan meet by doing some drifting in an unused (but very public) Northgate Mall parking lot. We were just going nuts in my Turbo II, my buddies R1 FD and another friends S13 240sx. We drifted around for about 15 minutes, shooting some footage etc. and about 3-4 minutes after we parked our cars--two cops rolled up after recieving FIVE calls on "reckless" driving in the parking lot.

The cops boxed us in and proceeded to heavily interrogate us, hoping for a slip-up, or some admission of guilt. We all (suprisingly) played it cool and wouldn't admit doing any "racing" type stuff. They went around and felt all our tires etc. I forget what exactly was said, but there were two officers and five of us, standing in a semi-circle facing each other, when the cop said something (maybe about the lack of front license plates?) well, we all looked at each other and starting cracking up. The officers relaxed and we started talking about fast cars, doing "burn-outs" and racing on the streets. There were a lot of relieved laughs and they let us go after hand-shakes and making us promise to go somewhere more "hidden" next time we wanted to drift around.

LOL

WELCOME TO CA. And OC is one of the worst spots, they have micky money so there are cops everywhere compard to LA. CA has the hardest Smog enforcement. They can **** you with a 30 day hold and a trip to the carb ref. It it isnt damn near bone stock, forget it. Anyone know how much a OEM set of cats is?! More then most Fc's are worth!!!!! CA sux *** on modded cars. I came from North Seattle and it wasnt much better than OC.

what happen with us was pretty similar, except we werent exchanging much laughs with the cops. there were 3 cops and around 8 of us in total that got asked questions, they felt the hoods and sht. finally my friend admitted to doing some crazy driving, and they said we could all be arrested, but i think when they found the guy had weed, all the attention went on them. one of the cops delt with the my friend's robbery so he was chill about it, the other was just whatever and a dick to the guy with weed, and the third was an asian, and boy was he getting annoyed with us talking amongst ourselves. i wont be doin it newhere public anytime soon, hopefully no more cop run ins

don't know how it is out there but, but some friends and i have actually gotten release forms set up and a couple of parking lots actually will let us close it off and drift late at night.
the forms basicly say that our actions are solely impending on the driver of the car and we hold no liability on the owner of the property. more or less. take into consideration that the lot is clear of any lights or anything and is in front of an abandoned warehouse. kind of a diamond in the ruff story. anybody else done this?

that is a good idea.

cops got no reason to complain if you have the owners' consent and you're out in an industrial area where nobody's getting pissed off.

Why would you get rid of your stock cat? Keep it and then you can always put it back on.

Doesn't matter how old it is if it still works. Evidently it worked when you took it off, so keeping it laying around won't make it NOT work if you have to put it back on.

and the guy has the r33 for nearly 4 years i think ... and the r34 maybe a bit over 1 year.

i guess it must depends on your State ... or your "connection" in the car inspection world. cause i know here i have mine so even if my car doesnt pass emissions he signs it has it would be 100% clear !!!
