Take a Cobra and put a 7.0L mod motor in it...it would hang with the Vette. Now supercharge the 7.0L mod and see what happens.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with the gearing, but the 03/04 Cobras have a 3.55 rear end to the Vette's 3.42 and an identical 2.66 first gear to the C6 Z06. Actually the only differences between the Vette's gearing and the Cobra is the 5th gear, 6th gear, and final drive. Yes, the final drive changes each gear, but 3.42 to 3.55 is not huge. My family's Cobra will do almost 80 in second where the Vette does 90 (bigger tire diameter and 500RPM higher redline). Now...reason why the Z06 weighs so much less is not due to plastic, but the extensive use of carbon fiber, aluminum, magnesium, and a little balsa wood thrown in for good measure.

The Vette does not have more torque. Period, end of story. The Cobra is easily making over 400 ft lbs from 2000RPM to redline. The same is not true of the Vette.

It only eclipses 400 for a brief moment, peaking at 420.

The car featured in the video is probably about 10 ft lbs less on average than mine.

The Cobra shouldn't have lost so bad. Equal driver to equal driver the Vette should have won, but not by the bus length+ that it did. The Cobra is putting down 460+ to the wheels (525+ to the crank) while the Z06 is rated at 505 to the crank (and seem to be dyno'ing in the high 430 to low 440 range). The 500lb weight deficit doesn't help much though. Of course bench racing is bench racing, but it would be nice to see the same cars on a drag strip to really see how they both accelerate in a controlled environment.
