BYE BYE Gran Prix

My buddy and I were cruising around and as we came out of town, I had a set of head lights staring up my ***. My friend was in front of me, called me up and said " Looks like we got a racer." My friend then gased it and I followed. The Prix kept up for a while, then we caught up to a Probe. I looked in my mirror and the Prix was about 100 ft back. And after we returned to the speed limit, right up my *** again.

GTPs are nothing to take lightly. A belt away from 13s, I believe.

I remember seeing Gran Prixs cleaning up at the track. Which is why this is so surprising to me. I thought it was a Civic that we had gone by at an intersection. I didn't know it was a Gran Prix until I turned off at the next light. He probably just got scared of going so fast and figured he would ride me rear when we slowed down.

It must not have been the GTP, or even GT for that matter. It was probably the SE with the 175 hp 3.1 liter V6.

The GT with the 200 hp 3.8 liter will beat an NA FC.

And dont even think about the supercharged GTPs. They will run side-by-side with a TII off the line, and walk away on the freeway.

There are quite a few 12-second Grand Prixs too.

I hate gtps. They're fast GM's that only come in auto.

Hmm.....I think I have to disagree with that. My friends Mom has a Grand Prix GT ('98 I think), and I can EAT that thing with ease. I know Im modded and everything, but it is no contest whatsoever, Im confident I couldve beaten it when I was stock. Ive driven it many times, and no way is it nearly as fast as my FC. They are nice cars and everything, pretty peppy, but definately not fast. yes a GTP with a smaller S/C pulley and exhaust can hit 13s.

GTP's are nothing to laugh at. My father has a heavily modified 97 GTP. His best 1/4 time to date is 12.350 @ 112.62 mph. Here is a link to his website: http://www.c-ya-racing.net/

they arent just automatics by the way, they do come in a 4 speed manual which sux *** . I would know, I have a GTP 2 door coupe automatic (previously my dads) and I am a member of the gp owners group forums. I'm gonna be switching over to a 93 fd, but yea my gtp is pretty quick for a family car. Mods are pretty cheap for the car too, 3.4 pulley for 60 bux gives u 20-30 more hp, u-bend delete in the exhaust and resonator delete free up the exhaust and reduce KR for around 100 for both removals. And if you want to go hardcore you can do a whole revamp of the car with alchohol injection, a 2.8' pulley, headers, injectors, tb spacer, port and polished s/c, 3' downpipe, hi-flo cat, and fenderwell intake for maybe around 2-3k.

There was a GTP pacing me down the highway a few weeks back. I wasn't gonna race him but he wouldn't let up so i finally started to downshift, when i went from 4-3 my exhaust got a little loud andi guess he thought i punched it bc he took off, so i floored it and passed him with ease. It had a sweet sounding exhaust and 3 gauges in the pillar. when i left off he flew by and i heard the SC whine. I thought it was my coolant buzzer or something at first i was freaking out looking at all my guages, when i finally realized what it was lol. I've only seen one other GTP and it looked stock with some highschool kid driving it. I would like to see a heavily modded one run. They seem to get a lot of hype, but there juat isn't that many rolling around my area.

In other words... an automatic. It still has a torque converter and it still has a slushbox.

My mom rocks the other sleeper to the GTP......The Regal GS, Dad and I bolted up; 12psi pully, full exhaust, cold air intake, shift kit, also droped it about 2 inches. The shift kit made a huge difference, pounds quickly between gears. Just for a good visual my mom is like 5 foot and 90 pounds, "tiny" with the seat super close to the wheel. Imagine getting pulled on.........soo funny.
