Buick vs. Civic
Setting:
Its about 10:30pm and I am celebrating my friends 21st birthday at Virginia Tech. I have had 1 beer in a 3 hour period, so I decide Ill be fine to drive to the bar. There are 4 people in my car including myself. I am stopped at the red light of a semi busy surface steet, when he pulls up next to me.
The Cars:
His car.
87ish to 91 Civic Hatchback with 1 passenger.
- Bright Red with full body kit
- Intake, Exhaust and Larger Rims, other mods unknown.
My Car:
98 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with 4 passengers.
3.8 V6 Supercharged (197,XXX miles) stock
235/65/16 truck tires which screwed up my gearing making it a bit slower.
The Race:
He pulls up next to me, I look over, look back.
He starts revving the motor a little. I look over, hes looking at me. I laugh.
I ask my girlfriend and buddies if they think I can take him. They believe I can. I press the gas while holding the brake to stage the car and help my launch.
The light turns green, my couch on wheels takes off like a bat out of hell (seriously) with little squealing of the tires. He chirps his but is already at the rear bumper of my car by the end of the intersection. I take it through first gear (60 ish) and let off. He is about 2 cars back and lets off as well.
He made a quick right and I didnt see him again.
The Conclusion:
I am pleased with my $1500 purchase.

Reminds me of the time in high school (about 3 years ago) when I was driving home from a friend's birthday party. At a stoplight on the highway a riced out civic hatchback (red with white doors, black spraypainted hood, and of skirts that almost scrape the ground :P) starts revving next to me at a stop light. So i humor him, and decide to blast off the line.
He was ahead by about a carlength up until about 70, at which point I start inching forward. He pulls in front of me, then over to a right turn lane and hits the brakes. I brake harder than him and end up about 4 lengths back doing 60. It's a divided turn lane, and he takes it at I guess 40.
I decide this is my chance, floor it and keep about 60 and put my rear tires over the divider and come out in the passing lane, keep flooring and leave him behind until a stoplight a mile down the road.
This was with my '96 stock Lumina, it was pretty liberating getting to show up a ricer with a hefty cruiser

Yeah $1500 dollars. It hauls *** too. Ive beaten a few cars nothing fast but still fun.
I bought it with 184,000 miles from a friends father. It was his boss's car with mostly highway miles, which he then commuted in. He just bought a Lincoln Continental and wasnt driving it anymore.
Neither of the front windowns work well, the drivers seat control surround is broken along with the center console.
I was getting 30 highway miles a gallon before I put those larger tires on it. Ive had no problems with it other than the routine oil changes.
I was actually considering getting a 5 speed Lincoln LS for my next DD when this car takes a crap.

I would advise against that... I've NEVER been more frustrated with a car until I bought this freaking Ford piece of crap. And I've owned 12 RX-7's.
Stupid crap breaks on it all the time. Stupid crap that should never, NEVER go bad on a car. Like valve cover gaskets. Why the heck should both valve cover gaskets go bad on a 5 year old car? And you know what? It's a $1000 fix at the dealer, or a 10 hour fix yourself. TO CHANGE THE FREAKING VALVE COVER GASKETS!!! Also the freaking rear window regulator went bad (the entire assembly needs to be replaced)... 5 freaking years old. Heated seats? They're there, but the drivers' side doesn't work anymore... Stupid stupid crap... Screw Ford.

Eh, it was just something fun to do. Killing cars like the civic in my buick are more fun than taking the same car in my RX-7.
I beat a Tiburon in the buick last night BTW.
