90 Mazda Rx-7 Turbo vs. 03 Honda S2000
Ok, I am supposed to race this guy with a s2000 this friday, but i kept thinking if I would win or not. I got really curious. So since I was usingmy dads s2000, I wanted to see what I can do. My dad told me not to race it, but I didnt want to lose money to that guy, if i am gonna lose. So I had my friend drive my rx-7 and I was driving my dad's s2000, because I don't want them to mess up my dads car. Anyways, first race from a stop. we launch and I peel out too much so he gets a 2 cars on me, and keeps pulling all the way to the end of 3rd. so I stopped, because I wanted a better launch. 2nd run, I get a good launch and catch good traction and the 7 gets a half car launch on me through first. at the end of 2nd he has 1 1/4 car on me. at the end of 3rd he has 2 cars on me. in 4th gear hitting like 120mph, I was able to get like half a car on the 7. I was surprised the S2000 had so much power in 4th gear. Its weird because I was overpowered by my 7 until 4th gear. I thought that the s2000 would be faster and that the 7 would win in the long run. I am a little shocked that I lost this way, but I am impressed how well im 7 did against this s2000. My mods are listed below. The s2000 is bone stock with a recent suspension tuneup by the honda dealer and the engine has only 29K. And my engine is a jdm low mileage, but I'm getting only 95 psi front and 90psi rear compression. Is it just my compression that made my 7 lose. I thought the 7 would overtake in the long run. Maybe I am just not tuned well. Can my stock mufflers be restricting power with all the load the engine is getting in 4th gear. I hear about peoples stories with full exhaust that say they take s2000 like nothing. well, i got a dp and straight pipe, but stock mufflers. I am hitting 10psi though. Oh yea, my alignment is pretty bad.

Maybe a little MMO or seafoam would boost your compression enough to get you back in the game.
You also said your friend was driving the 7 which means he may not have the feel for it you do.
Don't let the 7 lose.

technically the 7 won the 1/4 mile. it was not til 120mph, when the s2k caught up. i pretty positive its my stock catback that is restricting when having that much load on the engine.

MMO= Marvel Mystery Oil ( honey for the rotary engine) You can add to the gas or pour a little into the spark plug holes.
Seafoam= Marine lubricant commonly used in boinger engines, but is fast becoming a competitor of MMO.
Both break up carbon and scum that collects around the Apex seals. Suppose to help restore some lost compression.
Search around on the 1st gen. section for better writeups and methods.

I would say not only that, but your stock intercooler is going to play a major role in your lack of power in the upper rpm's as well. that thing cant flow really any more than a few hundred (~400ish...)cfm. so, you are SEVERELY lacking in the upper rpms as far as having the stock y-pipe/mufflers and intercooler. you also could be getting some lag as well--more than you think anyway with your current flow-state. i noticed a DRASTIC change when i went fmic and hell--even AFTER i went full exhaust all the way back (that was BEFORE fmic). if i were you, i would get a quick 50 dollar muffler job straight from the downpipe with cat removed (depending upon how much money you have on this thing). youll notice a large increase as far as upper rpms are concerned. if its one, just make sure you get 3", if youre going dual, get 2.5". its not "back pressure" that you need, its more like, pressure needed to scoot that exhaust out as much as possible. theres a REALLY great write up about exhaust flows some where floating around. i think it was on this board, but i cant remember. but, a good parallel example is when you partially block your water hose to increase pressure flow (usually squirting other people or small animals, no?)--thats how you should think of your exhaust. you block too much, its restrictive, you open up just enough, its exhaust pressure being released quicker. just my .02 tho.
in the end, i think youll get him tho. as long as you get a good launch, the only thing you hafta worry about are the extended gears in the s2000, plus they have a good 2k rpms in each gear on you. but, their stock dyno-charts are pretty sucky until about 6.5-7k from what i remember.
