5.0 kill

Hey this is a good one happened a few years ago before when I just started gettin into 7's- I started out w/81 gsl w/auto (hated auto) and then bought a 88 GTU. I was racing my coworker and passed her Saturn along w.some car,a truck and this 5.0 in front on the passing lane and go for awhile-this is in the hills...and then slow down and cruise...when i get out of the hills and it goes from a single lane into two lanes-and i come up to the first stoplight, which is red,and wait.I look in my rearview and looking for my coworkers lights. Everyone is coming up closer although I cant make anyone out yet-the light turns green and I 7k first and second and at 3rd I see a car coming up on my rear passenger tire...and I didnt know who it was just kept going-until I hit 4th and he was along side of me I saw the 5.0...at about 110 he was starting to creep by and I had to slow down for a car in my lane...got behind him and both turned right at the stoplight-I followed him. We went through the gears, and about 4th I was catching up to him-110,115, we switch lanes because a car in our lane and I am still gaining,120,and the road is clear and I switch lanes...125-then 130-as I am creeping up and passing him,I notice his car is starting to drift in my lane...I look on my left and have the center divider island CLOSE...I make the pass and look down at my speedo-134-and all the sudden I see headlites shoot to the left in my rearview...and the Mustang jolt and the parking lites stay on...I take my foot off the gas and zip home...I found out later the street was blocked off 1 mile on each side and he had a hit a tree in the center divider and split the car in half-the front was buried and him and his passenger was stuck in the back of the car across the street-crazy. I didnt drive for a few weeks needless to say and an article about it...one of my craziest- I have so many...most in my GTU but I have had a 87 and 88 T2,along with a 79 sa22c and I currently have a cleanass FB. More kills to come...I think the guy didnt expect me to come up on him so fast-he had me to 100-it seemed but after 120 I had him...plus I was behind catchin up...it looked like someone grabbed his wheel and pulled it to the left though I swear...I had a 91 GT 5.0 months down the road and they do not feel safe to me after 100-to floaty and the steering is sensitive...

Scary. Good to hear that you came out ok. Do you know if the people in the 5.0 survived?

yeah i allways thought the 5.0s would be faster, not much power for a 5 liter engine.
nice kill, hope they were ok

Oh, and no the 5.0's aren't all that powerful. They WERE, however, beating the **** outta the Camaro during that time. Not trying to bring down your kill, just saying.

I've owned both, and the Z28 is faster with a 350. 305 is a tiny bit faster, more dependant on driver.

All cars are deathraps at highspeeds... all depends on the car's design (ONE advantage to a corvette is how solid it feels at 140, they feel awesome there compared to ANY other car I've driven) and driver.

i always felt really safe in my 7 (1986 gxl) at speeds in the 120 mph. i don't do it often but it doesn't feel that fast..except im passing everyone (not much traffic). feels stable and i have a manual steering rack. never felt really safe (stable) in any other cars i've driven at that speed.

Uh, nope.

'83 through '86 had the L69 350 as options. And '87 through '92 had the TPI 350.

Well I'll be dipped. I learned something just now. But what I was saying is that the 5.0 Stangs would murder the 305 Camaros. I've driven both, and the 5.0 is noticeably quicker.

Based on what?
Throttle body or carbeurated Z's?

Stock vs. stock (NO TUNING) the TBI Z will be faster.

Now, if one is un-de-tuned obviously it will be faster thanthe other. It's common knowledge the engines in the '70s and '80s were de-tuned to the maxxx.

Especially considering the first year of the 5-0 H/O was 157HP, with same year Z's at 145 carbeurated, 167 throttle body. Then in '83-84, somewhere around there, came the 305 H/O at 190, which a GT won't catch.

That being said, they're both slow in stock form, and at least the Mustang doesn't say Chevrolet.
