380 HP CYM lunches a modded 96 Camaro SS

Hi Gang,

Its been a while....I had to post a kill

I'm driving home with the wife after dinner & I'm getting reved by some mid 20's guy in a black SS.

Hmmmm, my desert at El Torito's sucked, time to get some seconds!

I pull to the next light with him looking over & reving me....so, the wife turns my boost up to a moderate 12 lbs, but I did not get my revs up in time before the light goes green (bummer). The SS has me in 1st gear by 1.5 car lengths (due to my bogging in 1st - idiot ), I shift to second & I'm right next to him spinning my SO-2's...I am now 2 cars ahead of him & hit third....he is getting walked as I use up 3rd gear & shift to 4th....time to quit.

I think he heard my car howl through an underpass in 2nd :p .

He goes by me (he had let up as I had tapped my brakes) & waits at the next light behind some traffic...."You runnin' Nitrous? ..."No", I reply. He just has this puzzled look on his face & says, "That is a nice car & its fast as HELL"! I said, thanks & waved & told him he had a nice SS (he said it had an exhaust, intake, & something else - I can't recall).

Anyways, nice fella & I had a better desert than that bogus frozen "fried" ice cream at El Torrito's.

See ya,
Matt

With that much hp in your car it's pretty easy to walk all over the SS. I just spanked one last week on the expressway. The guy was pretty cool too.

I find kills like this funny..There is no way an Rx-7 beat an SS Cheby Camaro.....Those things have V-8's.........Next I'll be hearing viper kills(and we all know nothing can beat a viper)...

Mr. RX-7 TT,

You doubt MY kill?

Well, then I doubt you beat that red 750 VFR bike 3 weeks ago, even though I was in the passenger seat & witnessed him dissipating from a 50 punch to about 110 mph!

No way an RX-7 can beat any bike on a roll......just no way man. Kinda like racing a V-8 car, impossible....too much tourque for our rotaries.:p ....People can take that tourque & put it up their a$$....it doesn't anyone I've ever raced - it just worsens their ability to control a good launch.

See ya,
Matt

RX-72Jock,

My wife was crackin' up on your post - she says "your girl is cool!".

I agree, all women should support their men in battle!

My wife LOVES going fast & racing - she's addicted & wants more power out of the Turbo II we also own (comin' up!)

Women racers DO rock!

Thumbs up girl racers

my girl is awesome. she used to live in vegas and cruised a 750cc bike. i forgot which one. damn, i would give anything to see her ride...but last night i was following a neon R/T around town and she was so stoked. he was kinda funny. i knew he would beat me, but it was fun just to roll around town going as fast as i could!! but yeah, she was all "follow him" when we first saw him. she never got scared or anything either. she is awesome.

I don't understand why anyone would be surprised... unless you're just being sarcastic. Chevy Camaro SS's aren't all that fast.

Maybe if I added several hundred pounds to my 7 it would be a dog too

Your wife works at Intel right? I remember her from the BBQ at alain's a few years back. I used to see her around every work now and then... Until I got laid off a month ago **bleh**... I believe she's QC? Anyway, shes got to have one of the cleanest FC's I've ever seen.

You know this thread is almost 4 years old, right???

Anyway, that FC was recently sold, and too bad it wasn't to me.

Good kill Yellow R1! And by the way, I am pretty sure Mr rx-7 tt was being sarcastic, simply parroting the 'typical' Camaro owner's diatribe.

And for those that don't think SS Camaros are "that fast", I beg to differ. Shall I direct you to one of the many automotive mags that show their performance specs?
Most of them look like this:

SS
0-60- 5.1-5.3
1/4 mi- 13.3-13.5
lat accel- .87g
Top Speed- 160

Which if you notice puts them in basically the same (or perhaps even a tad quicker) league as a stock FD. So...are you saying FDs aren't "fast"?

Not bustin' your *****, just clarifying a point. And also noting that in all the F-bodies I've raced, they've won about 2 out of 3 times.....

You've gotta find a girl that will let you race with her in the car :-) If she'll help, marry her.

I told my wife that i married her because she's only about 100 lbs or so, fully dressed. Doesn't cost me much horsepower :-)

Great kill.

Good kill.

Just wanted to make one point...

The 96 SS has an LT1 motor which is slower than LS1 (which I'm sure most of you guys know this) so no reason to question this kill.

Personally, it doesn't matter how many cylinders you have, if you mod it enough it will beat many other cars, regarless of number of cylinders. I've seen Honda Civic take out WS6, and modded STR4 beat modded 03 SVT Cobra so nothing is impossible.

Good kill.

An LT1 SS (if stock or lightly modded) is no match for your car.

I don't even remember this kill it was so long ago. I didn't think it was possible to pull a post up from 2001? Wow.

Things have changed, the R1 has more power & we have a new SLK55 which replaced our Turbo II (and a G35x that replaced our old beater Taurus).

I think we need more kills? Digging up 4 yr old corpse emails ain't cool.

See ya,
-Matt

So why post Flywheel HP when you have RWHP already?

Because at the time I did not know my exact RWHP (had not thrown it on a Dyno). When I did get the car on the Dyno, it aligned with my flywheel HP (given drivetrain loss), almost exactly. I was very close.
