2004 GTO vs 87' TII

This happened today on Rt.7, i had noticed this GTO parked next a Zo6 but paid no mind, because it was in the circuitcity parking lot. As i walked past it i thought to myself how i would fair against one and what do you know when i was leaving the gas station i was right behind him! It was just he and i, the double left green arrow illuminated and we were slowly pacing eachother, i gave it a little gas to let him hear the exhaust, and the stock BOV which is extremely loud for some reason. He gets on it first and as soon as i hear his exhaust open up i get on it mind you i'm in 3rd at about 4200 rpm, i'm not gaining anything at all, so we get up to the next light its red but there is one car infront of him so i wait. Before the light turned green though we chatted a bit complemented eachothers cars it was pretty cool, after the talking comenced he said "are you ready" i was like sure... we were in first and we both just got at it it was almost dead even i think he had maybe half a bumper on me. We went up to about 70 mph, i was pretty proud of my little 13bt, by the way he did have a passenger though, a pretty hefty dude actually.. but oh well i still didn't win but he deffinently didnt pull much at all.

My mods:
RB turbo back
Rtek 1.7
720cc secondaries (for those who don't know rtek requires them)
Intake
Walbro Fuel Pump

not bad bro. those gto's are pretty fast cars not easy to keep up with them. by the way i wanted to ask you something, a little while ago i run against a guy that have an rsx type-s he destroyed me very easy. my TII was stock at the moment only upgrade was a turbosmart bov and a downpipe. the guy took me like (this was on street not drag) 4 cars i was very surprised and i just wanted to ask you what are my chances when i put next wekkend a RB complete exhaust, safcII, and a turbosmart boost controller set at 11 or 12 psi. the guy on the rsx was doing 13.9 at the drag, he said he had a cat-back exhaust, intake and a hondata(i think the guy is lying cause he cant drive that hard with only those mods) what do you think my chanses of winning are? i will be racing him again pretty soon.

thanks bro

Actually his times are about right for his mods assuming that he's an excellent driver. That Hondata really makes a difference.

yeah dude if he's pulling 13.9's and your basically bone stock you have no chance, your running high 14's he's running high 13's, make sure your waste gate is ported, get a fcd, a bigger fuel pump, it wouldn't hurt to get some bigger secondary injectors since your going to have a safc but i think it'll be alot closer i still think your in the low 14' territory to possibly high 13's

the LS1's had 350 hp not the monstrous 400 hp 6.1L engine from the corvette, i would have gotten murdered, i think it was only even because of his obese friend.

they are still fairly light cars with a 350 in it. some kid took one of our almost brand new but used GTO out for a spin and turned off the traction control, i guess he was trying to immitate something he saw on TV cause this kid was only 17 or 18(no clue why they even allowed him to drive this car), and to make a long story short he drifted sideways and overcorrected and hit the only firehydrant in a 1/2 mile section of a curbed lawn. nothing to sneeze at, they are really quick cars, that was an auto GTO btw and i doubt his insurance is covering it.

fairly light cars??

I would not call a 3800lbs car (without passangers) 4000lbs+ with passangers a light car. and the ls1 is 346cu.

I've raced 2 with my car. Both had those hood scoops, I think those are the 400hp versions. The one at the track ran a 14.0 i think and I ran a 13.8. The other one was on the street. We both got on it at 40mph and I had 1 passenger. My bumper was at his fender by 100mph. I'm suprised that I kept up with him.

In my opinion, theyre not that fast for somereason.

^they are fast cars stock... remember they weigh a lot more than TII's and can beat mildly modded TII's stock. how can you say they are not that fast when you got beat by one that was probably stock and you were modded... apples to oranges my friend

hmm, it didn't feel quite that heavy but whatever. it would blow a stock T2 away.

even if it is 347 who gives a **** about 3CIs. "what motor you got?", "347 baby!" uhhh yea...

personally i could give 2 ***** about the GTO and i never paid much attention to the specs on the car or the engines but i have driven them.

I'm just saying that 400bhp really didn't seem like 400bhp when I raced one. With my mods, I'll say I'm probably making 270bhp, if not less. I'm not discrediting that car. Anyone know if the car is overrated hp wise?

Are you just assuming it was an 04?...

Would you run low 13's with that set up? Because the 04's run low 13's.

they don't run low 13's, and i no it was an 04, if it was a 06 i would have gotten stomped, 2004-05 are 5.7L's 2006 are 6.1L with 400 hp, they run mid-high 13's even 14's dude. Maybe your thinking of the LS2 w/400 hp, but once again he had a really fat passenger, i'd guess im running low 14's to possibly really high 13's.

Considering my 63 Nova wagon weighs 2700lbs curb weight stock, 3800lbs is not light. So yes, I agree. lol
