1988 SE vs WRX

So we were at a light, both of us coming to a rolling stop, light goes green, he whails on it, and so do I - slightly pulled away from him in 2nd gear all the way to redline, and then he turned off.

1988 SE, racing clutch, t2 exhaust system

It was a WRX. I know it was, it originally was ahead of me before we met at the light...

Hhmm.. weird because I was driving today and ran into an ~04 WRX Wagon (mods unknown) with different results. We sort of had two runs and I struggled with both. Part of that had to do with him getting a huge jump on me both times and me being indecisive (didn't want to mess around too much this morning).

The first "run" was coming down a bridge and we were going like 75ish and I was in the left lane behind a slow car and wanted to move to the middle lane to go around some cars. Before I can do so the WRX that was tailing me moves to the middle lane, then goes to the right lane to go around the same car in the middle lane, and speeds off before I could even get any open space. We took separate exits shortly thereafter.

The second time was at a stop light right before a bridge that leads uphill for like 100 feet then straightens out. When I was coming to a stop I was like, "No way.. Is this the same guy? He must've been flying to get here by taking the long way." so I think to myself and decide to go for it. However, before I even make up my mind and get my car into gear the light turns green and he floors it. Needless to say I was a little aggravated. I hit the first 3 gears perfectly but by the time my car got to 3rd he was already several car lengths away (damn the 7's lack of low end torque). I get up next to him to see if he wants a real go, but he didn't do anything so I just sped up a little and moved in front of him. As soon as I get in front of him, he speeds up. I held him off the rest of the way while still in 4th gear and had to slow down for upcoming traffic. SO I was kind of confused, but even if I had gotten a real launch or we ran from a roll I'm still not sure if I would've been able to beat him.
My Mods are pretty lame and really shouldn't count; exhaust (large, loud duals of an unknown brand -- previous owner), strut bar, open 6 ports, and Bridgestone 205's.

Contrary to this information, I did keep up with a 350Z (with a turbo?, I swore I heard a BOV) from a dig like 2 or 3 months ago. I even got a tiny jump on him. I shifted early at 3rd and let off mid-way through 4th to slow down on time. We had to let up after triple digits because cops like to camp at a certain spot on that road. We both slowed down before we got to the next light. If I didn't let off first then I know I would've won, and he gave a thumbs up which is always cool. Also it was cold and I know for sure my car was already warmed up when we raced. Maybe his car had super lag or is an auto?
My Mods: Same as previous with addition of Stage 2 clutch

I'm not sure if any of this info. helps, but both of these cases really stick out for me personally

I only got him because I anticipated the light, so I got a slight jump to get my rev's up higher, but trust me - he was trying.

I highly doubt your non-turbo RX-7 can beat a turbo WRX unless you have some major mods.

I never said anything about fully beating him out, I'm talking 1 gear, from a roll, with me having a little bit of a jump.

You so got the jump on him and took him through first gear and then after that he pulled away? That's not exactly a race.

Actually I explained it earlier, it was from a roll at a light, I anticipated it better than him, he was looking at me and gave me a "nod", 2nd gear.

Most of the topics in here aren't actually kills, lol... it's either dumbasses wrecking their vettes or people owning FC's... lol
