1 and 1 with Camaro SS

I was driving down a road with mild traffic in the middle of 3 lanes and i noticed a red w/black top SS up ahead in the fast lane. I caught up to get a better view and noticed it had an exhaust.

As I passed by I saw the driver leaning foward to look at my car. At the moment there were cars in front of both of us so we couldn't run 'em yet. but je stomped on the gas for a second and hit the brakes.
looks like he wants to play. I do the same to let him know i'm game. So we drive for a few more minutes until we could get in front of the two cars in front of us.

We finaly got to line up from about 40. I took the hit and he imediatley followed suite. I was able to pull close to half a car (more like a fender). and held it through 3rd with him not gaining and me not pulling any more. we stopped at about 90 or so.

Rx7---1
SS----0

we then slowed back to the speed limit and exchanged and then caught a light. I rolled down my window and asked him if he was stock (other than the obvious exhaust) but i couldn't tell what he said. he asked me also and i told him "I have a few things done" then the light turned green with neither of us ready so we rolled of the line and did a 1st gr punch. It is very cold out hear and we both spun BAD but even while spining he still pulled about a bumper on me in 1st then when second gear came, i got a little sidways but stayed in it. He hooked first and pulled his lead to half a car. I finaly cought traction in third but by now he was almost a full car out on me and barley inching away. so i shut it down.

Rx7---1
SS----1

We then went our seperate ways. It was a very clean car, and sounded good too. All in all it was pretty fun.

Oh yea I was riding solo and he had a female passenger.

it wouldn't matter, the auto's are even quicker in the straight line.

Kill.....not really

Hello, nice try/effort. You really didn't get a 'kill'. The first one you went first so you held the lead. The second you were out TORQUED (if there were even such a word). I sold my 99 WS6 in September to buy my first FD. I got it 3 weeks ago and LOVE IT! It's the car I was meant to drive. The Trans Am was my first love (Kinght Rider) and the 93 RX-7 was my second (I was 16 when it came out). LS1's are very potent powertrains and have a ton of potential. SVT owners and Corvette owners have known for a long time that 98-02 f-body's are street machines. Hats off to you for even challenging one.

It sounded like a M6( i heard him downshift before gunning it.

DRTHVDR

I have no problem admitting I lost to a faster car. I just wish I could hook up at lower speeds. I think I could have stayed with him if i had some stickier tires. I can spin the tires through the top of 2nd gr, 50+mph on the highway

But even though I was only able to hold him off when I took the hit I will still take that as a win lol. It might not have been heads up but he was ready and hit it right after me.

Power

Wellllllll GM Rated The LS1 Camaro's and Firebirds conservativly so as to not upset the Corvette buyers and it's image as 'top dog' (Probably the ONLY time in history the actually did that except the L88 Corvette). The Z28 and Trans Am were rated at 315 hp while the SS and WS6 were rated at 325 hp. By the time the 02's came around the SS Camaro was rated at 330 hp and 345 pound feet of torque. Actual Dyno numbers and quater-mile times suggest that power was closer to 340 hp considering it's the EXACT SAME drivetrain as a corvette except the intake manifold. Okay, I just realized I'm probably boring you at this point. One more neat little factoid. A factory stock, brand new off the line, was recorded doing a 12.9 in the 1/4 mile. Not bad for Goodyear Eagle F1's.

Tyres

I have the same problem with tyres you do. The ones on mine are bald and not Z rated but still. The Camaro's are about 10 inches wide. That's a huge advantage over the little RX-7's.

Thanx for the info. I've heard about a local Z running 12.9 w/ only a lid. and another that ran 13.0 bone stock. The guys running those times can really bang the gears. you won't see an "average" driver running that good. IMHO

I would love to have some 10 inch tires in the rear. but for noe i have to live with the stock wheels and 245s , DRs to come soon i hope

this would be true if they were built. stock for stock with a good driver the 6spd is faster, esspecialy from a roll. now when you start modding and you get a torque converter with some nice tires the auto will out et the 6sp but usualy be slower in the trap speeds.

nice kill/death

I just sold my F-Body. Snif snif. It's sad but the car was so 'one' dimensional that I was getting bored. The wife misses it and she's starting to hate my RX-7. Too many repairs. Oh well.
