sti obviously cant drive (well launch) you know i see so many people who buy awd cars thinking well now i have the advantage and i will win, not realizing it is way different launching an awd compared to fwd or rwd

The problem is that AWD cars are not built for drag racing, they're built for rally's and such. For dragging in an AWD, you need hella sticky tires. Once you can actually get them to stick, then you have to worry about the tranny breaking. AWD's are great if you're being sponsored or are just rich, but don't plan on your tranny lasting long.

ehh, my evo lasted through a good deal. cutting a launch like a 1.6 60 ft like i regularly did was death for most cars. if by accident you spin all four wheels, your still accelerating like hell.

ok I am no means a traction expert here but your post does not make sense to me. AWD gives you way more traction off the line. That's why the evo and such claim 0-60 in 4.9 (no traction issues).

If I am mistaken, please educate with some facts not opinions.

That's also why the FD and such claim a 0-60 in 4.9?

If you don't launch properly, even in an AWD, you can spin tires. Once you do get your launches down, or you get slicks or something close to it, then you're putting more stress on the drivetrain. You think that if you have an AWD car all you have to do is dump the clutch? Not quite. Especially once you start modding the car.

dude, have you ever driven an awd car? when you spin you are still gripping and accelerationg like a bat out of hell... its not like FWD or RWD where you dont move much. In fact, i cut my best 60' times while spinning all fours in my evo (1.69).

Weight bro. Just to clarify I was talking about the EV0 VIII with 276 Base HP.

In comparison to an FD: it has 20 more HP and 600 lbs more in weight. And actually does 0-60 in 4.8 not 4.9 (I was mistaken). Now don't forget that AWD has huge drivetrain loss and thus the EVO dynoes close to 230-235 to wheels a healthy fd is about 225-230 RWHP. That all wheel drive system sure makes up for that extra weight off the line.

evo is a bit less than that. more like 215whp.

You're missing my point, but I probably should've clarified. I know that AWD launches better, everyone knows that. My point was that the transmission (stock) will break sooner BECAUSE it's an AWD car being dragged. AWD cars drivetrains have more stress put on them. And once more, most people who drag AWD cars, aren't normally getting all that power to the ground in the first place. That doesn't mean that they're slow, it just means they're not as fast as they could be. Once they do reach that level, that's where things really start to break. Saw it happen on a friend of mine's Evo. Stock tranny couldn't handle it and hung itself at the line next to a blown C5.

How are they not as fast as they could be? If anything they are faster than they should be. What other cars can break 12's with <105mph traps and street tires? Not to mention the advantage they have with less than perfect track conditions.

Sure, there's a little more strain on the transmission, but that could be said for any car that's cutting a <2.00 60' on a regular basis.

Breaking traction = slower
Full traction = better launch
Better launch = more strain on drivetrain
More strain on drivetrain = drivetrain death.

I can't put it any plainer than that. Nowhere in all of that did I say that AWD's couldn't launch or were slow in comparison.
