wide band on the way. fpr? tunning?

Ok here is the deal I have a plx wideband comming in in the next few days so I can tune my car however my wastegate is not ported so I may see boost spikes so if I tune the car for lets say 11psi of boost and it runs 11.1 afr and I get a boost spike will the fpr up the fuel pressure? In other words is the stock fpr a rising rate?? I have plenty of fuel mods so I don't have to worry about that however with me tunning my car now it won't be crazy ritch at all times. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Wideband

you'd get more answers to this thread if you probably posted it in
Single turbo section OR
one of those aftermarket ecu threads. i have the same engine in a 1st gen rx7 and basically the same mods and im looking to purchase a wideband to tune the S-afc i just bought .
from what company did you purchase your wideband and how much were they? will you be running it full time or just to tune?
sorry i couldnt help you but if i see something ill let you know asap

I didn't get one yet instead I sprung for a fmic and ported my wastegate along with made a custome cai and that is keeping me busy right now however as soon as I recover from the damage I'm going to probably either get the plx300 or another one I forgot the name now damn. Anyways I will be running it all the time with the innovative heatsink bung that keeps the o2 sensor from burning up prematurly due to the heat of the rotary. Hopefully with these mods and tunning it correctly I will have a non ticking time bomb fc

The stock FPR is not a rising rate, and a rising rate FPR will not act fast enough in the instance of a boost spike to protect you. Do you have an S4, or an S5? Port your wastegate is a must, next a high quality electronic boost controller. Carl BTW what are your fuel mods, and expected max boost? What exhaust are you running?

well the fmic is definetly a must to keep intake temp low for reliabilty and more ponies too. and porting the wastegate , i have read of so many guys doing this too. i will have to do this to mine to to prevent spiking. as far as wide bands i know that AEM makes one , i think the rx7 store sells it for like 420 but i dont know if its for full time use . i think its just to stick in the tail pipe and tune . i would personally like to modify the wideband somehow to run it fulltime as if having another air/fuel meter . i saw the plx300 and it looks very good . i might spend the 300 buck + the wiring harness and just use the o2 sensor i have now . i think i might not need the safc since the ecu reads from the plx itself and recalibrates for maximum air/fuel efficiency. i think i might be wrong so i will read more on this

As far as WBO2, there are several good ones, innovative while large is one of the better ones, Tech Edge is also very good. I am not familiar with the PLX, but either Grassroots, or Sport Compact did a review recently on the 5-8 most popular. No ECU is going to adjust fuel mixture at WOT, which is where you will have trouble. You also cannot use your regular O2 sensor, you will need the correct 5 wire unit for the WB you purchase. WB can be used all the time, I run one in my daily driver, and one in my race car all the time, it's good insurance. You will need some tool to adjust fuel depending on your set up. What ECU are you running Jose? What are your supporting mods on the conversion? Carl

wideband O2

carl thanks for the reply . i feel like im stealing help away from the guy who started this thread but dont mean to . sorry. well carl my mods on my turbo fb are 87 porterd & pinned engine .STock ECU , front mount intercooler from mitsubishi fuso, 720 secondaries and 2 more for primaries will be installed next week. TO4E turbo ,deltagatewastegate, greddy profec B boost controller tuned @ 14lbs ,Carteh FMU ,halmeter tuner A/F meter. fc defencer. gsl-se fuel pump BUT will be swapped out for the bosch pump i already purchased. and i just purchased a apex-i S-afc last week which should be here and installed by this weekend coming. im forgetting some mods but will remeber later. with the proper fuel and air bieng stuffed i hope to take it to the dyno once its tuned and hope for 300+HP and then take it to Sebring and see how it does roadracin. what brand wideband do you use carl? i read in the plxwebsite that i could use the stock o2 signal . look for the plx300 series wb. tell us what you think . and if you know any one selling any WB used complete let me know as long as it works i dont care.

no problem I don't mind if the topic gets off a little I learn either way Anyways I have a profec-b that is installed however this weekend I took my turbo out and brought it to a machine shop today to get the wastegate enlarged and they are also going to weld a bigger flapper on as well as cut the twin scroll flapper out of the mani and tap the hole and put a bolt in it. After this is done hopefully my fmic will be in so I can fabricate the rest of my cai. All this and a bunch of bills is going to keep me from finnishing her as soon as I'd hoped but it will be driveable. I will probably not get on it to much before it is tuned.

Carl thanks for the reply , i will definetly look into those companies as well and also for the info you have told me about the wb and the fuel mixtures .i appreciate your advise . Hondahater some work ahead but definetly worth it !!. once your set and done who will do your tuning? self or pay some shop? i want to see if i can learn to do myself which would be a learning expierience and hopefully this forum can provide me with the info necessary. Safc arrived so this weekend, will be going in along with 2 more 720's for primaries and if my wife and son permit maybe even my bosch fuel pump. i just dont know where to mount the safc. thinking of making a custom bracket that will hold it sideways pointing to driver from passengers side center console close to shifter on right side.

I'm deffinatly tuning it myself. Probably with the help of an rtek 2.0 chip and a plx300. With the data logging comming out in the new rtek chip being capable of data logging with only a palm piolet (and cheap ones at that) I will be able to log info into my m105 as well as watch the a/f #'s on my plx300 when I get it. I would like to get a data logging wide band but I don't think it is a nessesaty. If you have the stock ecu and its an s4 engine I would suggest going with a rtek 2.0 when it comes out the new features will be

1. fuel cut defence built in
2. unflood
3. turns secondary injectors on at 3300 rpm instead of 3500 on the 1.5
4. ecu works with the 720 secondaries instead of you having to trick your ecu with an safc.
5. retards timing when you reach 9psi of boost
6. data logging.

This is going to be a kick *** chip with a bunch of features that makes your car run more healthy and reliably.

Also with the safc and wide band you will be getting you can tune your car pretty well and it wont cost whatever amout it would cost per hour at a pro tuner. Around here it is 125 bucks an hour witch equates to 2.5 hours on that thing and I could have my own wideband constantly checking my a/f #.

Carl if i may ask. which wide band do you use ?
i got some instructions on how to install the SAFC from this website.
www.1300cc.com-howto-how2-safc.htm
now i just have to find one where teaches you how to adjust the fuel on the safc to fine tune as much as possible. the shops around here also charge an arm and a leg if your gonna tune your car on the dyno. they run that or more .
hondahater are you using your stock ecu as well ? what will you be using to adjust fuel ,safc, haltech??
and do you know of any sites that help to tune the SAFC? im gonna try and install it later on today but it doesnt look like its going to happen . but no rush anyway now untill i get a hold of a good wideband kit complete. new or used.
im going tomorow to barnes and nobles hopefully they still have the issue on the wideband O2 comparison . well goodnight cause its 240 am

Well I've heard a bunch on this forum that it's not rising rate until its a 1:2 ratio??? I'm no expert on rrfpr by any means but I've heard this on more than one occation. I also heard it's not a rrfpr if you can't set it to anything more than 1:1 ratio?? I don't know just what I've heard.

Oh by the way to4e, I do have the stock ecu so I am waiting for the 2.0 chip to come out so I can use it and data log with it as well as one day Hopefully sooner than later I'm going to get a plx-300 (doesn't have data logging but thats ok). You can usually get them for about 300 bucks. Also I'm using an safc to tune with however with the 2.0 chip I don't think you will have to do much except for maybe tune above 12psi. You may have to do more than me because of your primary 720's.

rtek7

im putting the 720s in the primary as well for peace of mind. but if it doesnt run right or i cant tune it then ill slap the 550s back on. im gonna read up on the othe r widebands so im gonna hit the book store and see if i can find the issue with the wideband comparison, even though i myself like the plx300 just looks nice mounted on the dash . and as soon as henrick starts selling the 2.0 rtek chip my ecu will be on its way . if your in doubt about the stock fpr then see if you can get your hands on an aftermarket because you will be boosting pretty high . i use the Cartech FMU and @ 14 lbs of boost it keeps the fuel up there also giving you peace of mind.

henrick and the rteck7 chip

hondahater i did talk to henrick. he said he is developing 2 new chips . the 1.7 and the 2.0 . now here is how they differ. the 1.7 is the same as the 1.5 only he added the flood guard and tells the ecu you are using 720's. still need Safc and wideband to tune would be on the money ! then you have the 2.0 here it has all the same stuff as the 1.7 only he added GET THIS a SAFC in the chip , so all you have to do to tune is buy a cheap *** palmpilot and control fuel AND datalog from the palm of your hand . too bad i already bought a SAFC if not i may have waited but i guess its the same ****. just sounds nice though the 1.7 should be available already but website never updates and wont take orders over the phone ARRRGGGGG. the 2.0 will be available months from now. still under development. digital tuning is really developing some awsome technology for our cars im really happy S4 owners can now use this kind of technology to bring better performance out of these babies

well they have taken the option to install it yourself off the list. You now have to bring it to them to have it done. I asked them why and they said because it's not a matter of soldering in a chip anymore. Now you have to solder in jumper wires etc....I have mine on the way and have a pretty good understanding of soldering and have a friend that is even better however this is definatley more andvanced then before so I do understand where they are comming from.

no data logging is not available for the 1.7 chip. the reason why the install is so hard and that they don't offer it any more for the 1.7 chip is because its not simply putting in a chip any more there is also place where you have to cut and splice circuit traces on the circuit board itself so as I'm fairly good with soldering if I can't do it and my friend who is about 100x's better than me can't do it I'll take it back to them and have them do it. I would hate to **** up my new chip and ecu. The 2.0 chip will have a daughter board that will be placed in the ecu that will have the data logging capabilities. Hopefully I will be getting the 2.0 chip when that comes out but the 1.7 will hold me over until then.
