Hey damian, Is this a premonition for next season? Those are the baddest little race cars i have seen in a while. I like the 962 body style.

In the pics of the 962R it shows a carbed engine. Is this a option or just a older style set-up. I saw that it stated the powerplant was going to be the renesis out of the Rx8. Direct fromMazda.. They are keeping it FI or switch to carb?

Not that you know. just thought maybe you had been drooling over these longer than me/us.. And for 55k out the door race car!! That is a bargain!!! If there is such a thing in racing!!

Good find man. It is on the top of my favorites list of cars to get....haha!!..yeah!

Just read a little more.. the n/a engine is the SCCA legal 12A set-up. NASA and others will accept the FI renesis..even with a super charger..nice!

Didn't Foko pick up something like this after he sold you the CYM?

I was looking ant the photos and saw a chain drive and was thinking wtf. I was looking at the prototype though.
Those look badass and also looks like a los of fun. But for the price, I think I would still pick the new Star Mazda cars.

BigIslandSevens,
The reason for the carbed version, which is actually a 12A, and the FI of the Renesis, is actually explained in the description of the engines. Or maybe the car iteslf description, I can't remeber right now. The Renesis motors will be offered for those that don't want to run SCCA club racing class CSR. This is for tube frame cars, open or closed, with many engine options, some automotive, such as the Beasely's, sp?, and some of motorycyle origins. For SCCA CSR, you are required to run the 12A brigeport, with carbs or fuel injection , such as seen in the pic. In the description they also discuss using Electromotice TEC3 with it, which can be seen on the rear bulkhead with the coil setup.
They offer the Renesis engine for those that want to run track days, or with some other sanctioning bodies that accept the different powerplants. At least this is as much as I remeber correctly, so mileage may vary with use, no warranty expressed or implied, not responsible for errors or ommissions, blah blah blah....

Cheers,
Travis

Let's see.........the Diasio has been around for a number of years. At first, it was a DSR with the I4 Yamaha or Honda engine with the chain drive. I saw one race ar the Runoffs a couple of years ago........it wasn't competetive.

Then the Radical came out a couple of years ago, and DSR had a re-birth. The Diasio fell farther back in the pack. Now the Storher is the car to have in DSR.

I saw the Diasio at PRI year before last with a carbed 12A in it, and was told the plan was to homogulate it for CSR since the 2 seat Radical with the 12A was going there as well. Neither of them were at the Runoffs this year.

However.........the car that was 2nd this year in CSR was either a Ralt or Lola Formula ATlantic chassis with sports racer bodywork and the loudest 2 rotor engine I have ever heard. Not sure whether it is a BP or a PP, but it is fast every year. It was a close race as well.

FWIW, Ben Beasley is now driving a rotary powered Formula Atlantic and is quite fast. He was in the front pack when someone spun in front of him in turn 8. Wiped out the front wing and suspension.

Also, Dick Diasio built Putnam Park and has since retired. At last I heard, his sons are running the track now.

the diasio has never been competitive in DSR cuz it's too heavy compared to most cars in the class. a competive DSR is usually about 850#(dry). i've never seen it race SCCA CSR, but the one time i ran with one at a track day, i was 6 seconds per lap faster in my CSR Radical SR3 (at Buttonwillow)

the car you are referring to at the runoffs is jacek mucha's rotary powered formula atlantic car which is homologated for CSR by adding bodywork and using the 12A BP. rumor has it he has well over 120K into that car which is blindingly fast. there's some controversy over his car though because of the underbody of the car has tunnels, which isn't strictly to the letter of the law in CSR. having the tunnels gives his car a tremendous downforce advantage over the typical CSR/DSR flat bottoms.

i'm presently preparing a new Stohr DSR for next season. hoping to get to the runoffs in 2005

just lurking a bit

Fabian,

That's the car, the name strikes as the one. Yes, the car is amazingly fast, and I was aware that it was an FA. Regardless of any controversy, it is a cool car.

I was camped next to this years DSR winner, who was driving a Stohr and is from Seattle. The best thing about that car is that with a fresh set of tires, it ran 3rd in CSR. It certainly is an impressive car.
