Roll cages for FD?

I'm looking for a full roll cage for my rx7. I want it to be 6 to 8 point which also covers the front end. I know cusco makes one, but the front half doesn't fit the US spec RX7's. I don't want just a roll bar either. Someone help me.

What's wrong with having one built?

Call up a cage building, and make it happen.

You are much much better getting one built for you.. These cars aren't that big, you need every bit of room you can get to keep your head from bouncing off the A-pillar bar.

Paul,
Where did you get yours built? I have heard Frey Racing is good but looking at all available options.

Thanks,
Mark

TriPoint (in central CA) makes very very nice cages from what i've heard, and they are primaraly a rotary shop. Saw a ///M3 online that had a full cage built at TriPoint and the thing just screamed quality...

I had mine built from Tom's motorsports in Vegas. The bars are within 1/4 inch of the headliner. for the rear support, Tom fabricated mounts to go over the shock towers. He does all of Shelby's custom work and does a lot of gt and gts cars. I couldn't find a storage place I felt comfortable leaving my car with in Vegas so he offered.

I made the mistake of going with a 'prebuilt cage' from Kirk. While the people at Kirk are nice, pay the bucks for a custom cage.

Mark,

A buddy of mine is a welder, and a unlimited class Open road racer.. He did the cage, while I provided the grunt work..

He's been considering doing roll cages for a living, if you're interested, I can put you in touch with him..

Alan Blaine, green Camaro with the funky aluminum ground effects.. He's kinda done with it now, running ITE road racing with SCCA..

I remember Alan.

I think his last race was May 01 wasn't it? I remember him driving to the events...at night you would see his car up on stands getting it ready to run.

I was running with John Buscema when I met Alan. I now run with Dave Golder\Todd Carpenter.

Have you ever been to any of the events? Last month was the first event in Wendover. The car ran good (204 up a 6% grade) before blowing up. One of the guys bought Kim Bakers old vette. Unfortunatley he had a tire go down and he killed himself.

I was wondering if he has made one for an rx7 yet. I am looking to get a 6-pt. chromoly roll cage. I live in Detroit and I am badly in need of one and custom seems to be the only way to go. Thanks a lot,

Craig

P.S. I do know that this thread is from three years ago and I tried PM'ing you, but it wouldn't allow me to send you one. Anyways, I would appreciate any help you can give me. I hope you get this.

Do you live around Detroit? I would expect to find plenty of experienced welders/fabricators in the area, and of those more than a few with custom cage building experience. Who do the local racers go to?

This guy has been in the racing business for 20+ years and was the lead fabricator for the Nissan GTP cars of the ealy 90's on top of other big name teams he has worked with to overqualify him to work on our cars.

He's done lots of work on my car and is reasonably priced compared to others of his caliber. However, don't expect anything cheap or for him to half-*** anything either to save a few bucks. You get what you pay for....
