"Rev-ability"

Hey guys, I really love the sound of a rotary (2/3/4 rotor) at 10000 rpms and I was wondering what factors have to be taken into account when building a high revving application. What would need to be done internally? What kind of standalone would be required to run at these levels (also, is there any standalone that can handle more than 2 plugs/rotor)? Also, how are side ports vs. PP's at higher rpms?

On a side note, are there any racing series that use rotary engines only?

Answer to the second question: Formula Mazda

As for the first question... I would say to start reading and don't stop until your head explodes. lol The answer would fill many many threads but really quick: good oil supply, cooling, balancing, lightening, e-shaft clearance, rotor clearance, lots of air. That leads to your port question, PP will give you great high rpm power at the expense of bottom end drivability. Intake manifold design is also an issue for high RPM performance.

Then you have to worry about gear ratios to keep the engine in the RPM range it likes...

Hope this points you in the right direction.

Thanks for the responses guys. Any types of these builds off the top of you're head? Know where I might be able to dig up more info on some builds like this?
