Race car video......Thunderhill w/bypass

Hey Gang,

Thunderhill with NCRC yesterday....Great 85 and sunny. Ran the bypass. Got some great video chasing a Porsche cup car. Had a blast. Here's the link:

Wow, 2 minute lap times? What mods do you have on the car, and were you running on street tires or track tires? BTW great vid and driving.
I've done two track days out at TH and have problems with the first part of the track on the high speed turns, need to grow bigger sack or get a good instructor, looks like you have the track dialed in.
I'll probably be out there next month on the 19th or maybe earlier for a NASA event: when are you up this way again?

Actually was running in the 1:56 range.....makes for boring video because there is no traffic. Best lap that day was 1:55.5

Car is full race prep......Pettit's old GT-2 car that he ran in the late nineties. Been sorting it out for the last year and a half....Seems like I'm getting there.
I ran hoosier DOT's that day........

Not sure when the next event will be for me.......might try to get to Infinion next.
Thanks
Niles

Nice, my best official time is 1:58.5. Of course my car is a TII built in my garage, and weighs 2900lbs LOL

Yeah, funny Carl, the thing is if you saw this car you would say mine was the one built in a garage and your was the pro build.....Seriously, if you saw this car and knew it was from Pettit, a pro, you would be very surprised......It's all business though, and while it looks like crap, it is good at what it does.

The big difference other then FD/FC, is the weight.....right around 2400lbs dry.

Great video and that car is totally flying.

Did you wack your helmet on the rollbar when you came over the crest and got a little loose? I heard something go "crack."

2400lbs dry is awesome. That car must scoot.

You have a staggered wheel/tire combo right? Can you list it again?

No, that wasn't my helmet, it was probably the wheel chok I forgot to take out of the car before the session.....:-)

Ran with 295/35-17 and 275/40-17..............A new set up..........The old was 275 rear and 245/40....Which I believe was the spec tires size for the class it was racing......

As you can hear in the vid...pretty heavy understeer mid corner to exit.....hope to cure that next time out.... which won't be anytime soon as my fuel cell decided it was done holding fuel two days after the TH event. New bladder on the way.

Nice time on those tires at T-hill Mark.
Cheers

Excellent video

What spring rates are you running?

Great lap times as well. I just checked and the t1 lap record is a 1:51 so a 1:56 is pretty damn good for a lapping day.

I just googled the t1 lap record but I don't know **** about that track and it's configurations so most likely my info is incorrect.

The way you were working that car at that weight with those wheels and tires etc.... that would make more sense but it looked like traffic was challenging

With those spring rates that track must be ruff as hell it looked like you were bouncing all over the place

Currently I'm running some 650ff 450rr which is working fine with the stock sway bars but with some stiffer sways I may need to increase both front and rear with less bias on the front.

Smooth track, worn out shocks........I was working my *** off to get that car around.

yeah, challenging traffic.........usual ferrari's, Porsche's etc. :-)

I've got a big tubular bar up front and a stock rear bar modifed to be adjustable. The bigger front bar really settles the car.
