Quick question, HPDE incident

I was at a track day on Sunday and my buddies RX8 died on the track. He had to get it towed off and they charged him $125 to tow his car off. Has anyone else had to pay to get their car towed off?

I've been towed off once after an off-track excursion and didn't get charged squat.

that sounds rediculous to me. That kind of thing is what your entry fee is for....I would have a conversation with the sanctioning body or event organizers....maybe the tow guys are pulling a fast one. Sorry to hear that.

It was actually the track head that charged him. I thought it was a crock but he was so worried about his car that he didn't want to complain.

Depends on the organizer. Some tracks allow you to rent the track and tow services separately, so they stay on stand by and if you need a tow, they charge separately.

I've found here that a lot of smaller organizers do this.

^agreed different tracks or organizations have different rules. An example is one here makes you repair stuff you tear up, guard rail, pavement, etc. out of your own pocket, while another local track doesn't.

That is ridiculous to be charged for being towed off the track.

What track was it?
Who put the event on?

We need to know so we can stay clear of them

Never ever heard of being charged for being towed off track regardless of the reason; I'd be in alot of debt if that were the case!

I still say that is bogus.....I would have told them to pound sand. Unless the entry fee is $50 or something. Especially $125, that is absurd.....you oculd be towed across state for that much...how far did they go...a mile.

Maybe I should become a two truck opperator.......

Please tell us the track and organizer. In 20 years of track events, I've never heard of that. Usually the tow truck is on retainer for the day for a flat fee.

The track was Autobahn in Joliet IL. It is a race track "Country club". The track day was not cheap... 225... I am emailing the organizer... We will see what he has to say.

Autobahn!!?? I have raced there many times and seen numerous people get towed, and to my knowledge have never been charged. Our event costs 185 on average. ....seems messed up.
