newb autcross ?

Ok so have have ran 3 events this year I am still unsure what class would be best for me. Been reading the rules book but it very confusing to me. All my mods are in my Sig. I have ran E Stock but not legal there and been running E mod. What class should I be running? Thanks Nick

Look at the local competition and decide from there - some classes are more competitive than others. In one region some cars dominate a class where in other regions that class is wide open.

Do you want to learn to handle your car better and drive faster to eventually go road racing or do you want to be competitive and go to nationals?

What you want to get out of auto-x is essentially going to define what class you want to focus on and where you want to put your money. Remember, there are always people out there who will outspend you to be able to go faster than you and the rest of the cars in whatever class you choose.

Well, there's E-Stock and STS2, but I doubt your car is legal for those two.

SM2 is where I would run if I was you, and is probably going to have the most cars in it out of the ones you are legal for. And IMO I had rather be competing against other people trying to catch them than running in a class just to win it.

^BTW looking like it is just you and me at Huntsville

It is also legal for CSP, the carb, header, and no cat take you out of stock. I think the no cat would also take you out of any street tire classes as well. But like SPICcnmGT, get in a class with someone to run against, we are lucky in the ALSCCA region, CSP is huge.

You can run in whatever class you think you can get away with...

At least until someone complains.

IMO most people at the regional level don't care unless you're blatantly cheating. It's nationals where they get really technical.

BTW, I was at the last ALSCCA event too

^yeah EM is down on the PAX list, but SM2 is down there close to it. Since the pulley's are the only thing keeping you from CSP I would run it until someone complained, because this more along the lines of where the car should actually be competitive.

Yeah, aftermarket pulleys are illegal for Street Prepared.

It was (and is) a heated issue with the supercharger guys who stood to miss out while the turbo guys could up the boost on the stock units.

You sure about that?

15.10.W. Any crankshaft damper or pulley may be used. SFI-rated dampers
are recommended. Supercharged cars may not change the
effective diameter of any pulley which drives the supercharger.

15.10.X. Any accessory pulleys and belts of the same type (e.g. V-belt,
serpentine) as standard may be used. This allowance applies to
accessory pulleys only (e.g., alternator, water pump, power
steering pump, and crankshaft drive pulleys). Supercharged cars
are excluded from this allowance. Alternate pulley materials may
be used. Idler pulleys may be used for belt routing in place of
items which the rules specifically allow to be removed, such as
smog pumps and air conditioning compressors. They may serve
no other purpose.

Curious why I haven't seen that before...

I guess you did not look. Back in 1995 when I ran my Corvette in SP we had undrive pulleys, this is not a new rule.
