wouldn't it be easier to just tell him to Join SCCA as an amateur. Race in ST class and just take it from there? I know it's not road-racing but he has to start somewhere.

You are all right though, you need money to maintain your car and make it to the next event.

You can Join Mazdaspeed once you are in SCCA and get a discount on parts but you still need $$

BTW you need a valid license.

Ya, that is a route he could go, but that is by no means the easiest IMO. If you crash or break a real car, it is a lot more expensive, as well as more complicated to fix. For a new racer, with not much actual racing experience, nor the best mechanical ability, a go kart is much cheaer, and a heck of a lot easier to fix.

On another not, not to plug or anything, but I have several race ready go karts, apparently MARGAY Racing doesn't want me to give them back at the end of the season lol. So maybe I can try and help you out with some parts...

Never the less keep on truckin

I still think you might be jumping into things going to an SCCA class. I don't know how old you are, or how much time you have but if you are really wanting to make something out of racing, I think you should start its karts. You can do so much in karting. You can learn the fundamentaals or driving, and have a much easier platfor to tune with. You can make easy changes a lot easier with a kart, which will help build your knowledge on what changes to make and in what situations to make them.

Racing is a very tough sport to master, and now days, it like a ladder. You have to start at the bottom, to work your way up...

If you can't keep your kart running and your street license in good standing....

good luck because you'll need it. Sounds to me like you're on the first step of the ladder and somehow you're already on your butt.

Depending on what you want to race, 19 is way to old to get started if you want to make it to the pro ranks. You have to be there by now if you want a shot. Thats why major racing companies have junior racing programs, i.e. RedBull Driver Search which turned into the RedBull junior team. People now are looking for young, well groomed superstars...

Agree, definitely too late for anything higher than Touring cars.

You should start AutoX'ing, that's where current GT champ Randy Pobst started off, I believe.

is gt higher then touring?

is'nt there a class/event/race or somthing where you can bring your car and modifiy it through out the season ,and depending on the weight and power ,it determines the class of car and ,which events /types you can race......

example 95 acura integra racing exaust <b-c class type car

you need to do a lot of research guy. You want to be a pro at something you haven't researched.

You have the stock classes, then modified, prepared and so forth. If you're really went to SCCA then you would have downloaded the 2007 rule book (and the new additions for 2008, if they apply). Then you would have read the thing and figured out what to do.

You want to run a marathon yet you barely learned to keep your balance. I suggest you stop posting and start reading like you've never read before.

Randy Pobst started autox-ing around 18. 19 is too old to get into open wheels, try your look with autox and see if you can win a national championship. I believe Randy Pobst won 6 before he turned into a road racer.

What the **** did you just say?

Sorry, but I honestly have no idea what you're saying. Please use standard American English with proper spelling, grammar and pronunciation, it'll be easier on all of us who have to read your posts.

You skipped 40 or so steps between 3 and 4. You should really rework your ladder to be realistic.

all the information i got from scca/race schools

some schools offer a program:that if and when you pass all test they take or setup an appointment for you to enter an event and race

Do you really think you're ready for a racing school?

Not do you want to go to a racing school, are your driving techniques and traffic management skills refined enough for further polishing?

I mean, you could go into a race school with no track experience, some people have done it, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

Do you have enough money to rent or buy a race car? or to do a full 5 day race school? What happens if you crash? What happens if someone else rear ends you? Race schools are usually no fault, so you pay if anyone hits you. I believe max liability for rookies is $4000......are you prepared to pay that much in case **** hits the fan?

Say you rent a race car. What car are you going to use to enter a race?

Most people use their street cars and autox/HPDE for awhile, before trying for their competition license. I wanted to get my license this year, but I ran out of money midway through the winter and I'm forced to sit out the majority of the season. You know how shitty that feels?

I'm not a slow driver by any means, I'm one of three drivers that has a shot at class championship this year, if I get the funds together to race. I ran against a national-level mid-to-lower pack driver and he completely killed me, by 5 seconds on a 45 second course. No matter how good you think you are, you will be paying to race for a good couple of years. Do you have the money to do so?

You should be paying for the feel of the track for a year before you even think about time trialing, let alone wheel-to-wheel racing.

There's no way to skip the time and money it takes to gain the experience.

If you go the racing school route, I do hope you have the skill and the money to continue forward, if this is your dream. I'm just trying to instill a sense of realism into your mind, since I was just like you.

No one has said it yet, so me be the first.

Troll.

...or silly teen wannabe, take your pick. The people in this forum who are actually racers have spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears (and money) to get there. If you're some sort of bay-area boy racer poser, then go go back to your video games.

Constructive replies to your questions have gotten old, and apparently have not been read.
