Need Info: Fuel Cell into a FD

So I want to do something similar to what PDViper did to his FD, but with a single cell.

I'm looking for a duel purpose cell. street/highway driving/road racing. I want to make sure I do everything to SCCA(?) certifications the first time, so that I dont have to change anything later down the road.

Also, I've called a few races shops with names like "driving ambition" and "driven authority" to talk to them about putting the cell in for me, and all I get is "Yea, we can do that." Is it ignorant of me to want a more thorough explanation, or is it a fairly easy job?

Thanks for any info guys, and if you've done it before and can offer some insite, or even some more detailed info like:
  • Dimensions of cells that will fit in trunk area.
  • Which brand cells to look at
  • What size is good for road racing.

5 gallon methanol cell

Both fuel cells in the rear of the car.

You will want a fuel cell with with a bladder. ATL or fuel safe to name few. 22 gallons is what I have, keep in mind that I run thru nearly 15 gallons of fuel in a half hour session when pushing hard.
Think about your racing events......enduro? sprint?

You'll also need to consider your fuel pump arrangement, surge tank set up etc.

This is a pricey mod, not much benifit unless you are loooking to carry more fuel, run in a certain class, or move your tank to a different location. If your car isn't caged, don't bother.

Driving Ambition can do anything you want. I've used them. It will be done perfectly. It will also be expensive. Shad (owner) has the experience and the know how. There is not a better race prep shop in Norcal.

I have a 22 gal ATL fuel cell with the ATL in tank surge tank and fuel pump. It completed it's first track weekend last weekend and I ran the fuel down quite a bit without issue. Rob with the orange FD in FL also has this fuel cell. You can check out my build thread in this section for pictures of mine.

Thanks fellas, both very useful info.

SHPNOUT, I'm not sure if it was Shad who I talked to, but he refereed me to Mike Stole, have you heard anything about him? Glad you have positive feedback with them, I'll definitely give them another call. Ohh, and the car is/will be caged, and I also might come get that press from you if you still have it?

Memphis, just checked out your build thread. Looks awesome man. It looks like we're going to be using the same aero. I'll pm you here in the next couple days, I have some questions.

I would also like info on this. Is it necessary to run an aftermarket fuel cell for SCCA/NASA. I thought you were able to use the stock fuel tank with some special brackets or something.

Thanks

No, not necessary. The stock tank will be fine.
