NASA Nationals

http://www.nasanationals.com/

So far the word is all traditional NASA Road racing classes and Time trials will be run. Qualifying will be based on attendance of regional events not finishing positions during races.

I can say right now we're 98% for sure we'll be there competing in PS1. Come out and cheer on the Mazdas.

Ohio..... thats a nice tow. not to mention the guys who run it has their home track.
I just got back from two first places, and a Track record for TTU at Thunderhill, no way would I tow to Ohio from Cali. It's neet that they came up with that, but most NASA guys are budget racers, IMHO. I doubt many would travel that far.

Glad NASA has a Nationals. That'll be sweet. Too far to tow from SoCal but nonetheless real sharp. I hope SPEED picks it up.

I agree that it's a long haul for the West coast contingent to hit Mid-Ohio. Any sanctioning body that has a national championship race like this should alter the sites on a yearly basis IMO. I realize getting dates at tracks is difficult and the logistics of an event like this must be a nightmare. But holding the championship race at the same track year after year is unfair to a good portion of the nation. I've made the tow across the country to race and would do it again. NASA, give me a good excuse to travel to Laguna!

I actually suggested that already on NASA Forums, as well as the possibility of travel contingencies. We shall see. Alternately some "multi region" championships with an average tow of less than 1000 miles. I think that as much as they can keep to the spirit of NASA's original premise' VS SCCA the better the events will be. For me it would be 10 days and alot of $$$. Carl

Because the Runoffs were rotated between Mid-Ohio and.......Mid-Ohio for how long???

In honestly though, this will be the spark that will create stronger, more unified Regional and multi-regional events

....and that makes me happy

Next year I will lap The Glen!

Well, it is a "long term contract", so the boys in Ohio, etc will likely dominate many classes. I am sure a top driver with a dominant car could do well, but I suspect that a very strong driver that runs the track on a regular basis will school almost everyone at their home track. It is true that Pro drivers can adapt to new tracks quite quickly, but as a bit of a pessimist, I would suspect it will be a blood bath in many cases. NASA is working on getting western drivers out to Ohio, utilizing Semis to haul the cars, and equipment, this certainly helps, at least they are thinking about it. Time will tell, but imagine if Nationals were taking place at your home track every year, if you are good you would kill IMHO. I know you cannot satisfy everyone, but they could have at least kept our hopes up the first year by not telling us this was " long term" LOL... As CAFC notes(and as I did before), hopefully this sparks some string multi region competition that can move around. It would be run to run against Damian (my competition based on this years results IIRC), but that is alot of money and time, and travel to run against say an equal car with many tens of hours of track time on his side year after year. I wonder if there could be a somewhat different configuration specific to Nationals? That would at least level the field a little. Carl

Hey Damian, I have several friends who have run/placed in One Lap, generally, the $$$ keep me from doing it. OTC is another story, I will try to do that if it is not canceled again. I am working on some more signifigant sponsorships, if they pan out, that would be a different story. I have ben offered a ride or two in the past, also the 25 hour at Thunderhill, but the entry was just too high for my little budget. I really have to do everything on a budget with two kids, good sized house with a 3400.00 mortgage, and an average job. I will probably finance next years effort by selling all my single turbo stuff from my '97 Supra. anyway, I am sure we will cross paths at some point. Next year I will be turning to you for a little advise on in car /outside of car video. I love watching your videos, as I amsure everyone else does as well. There is a guy down south in cali, Jack Mardikian, he has a very well prepared GTC FD, semi wide body, dunlop slicks, etc. Look for pics ofhs red car at SS8. Carl

I hope we do, I had a great time meeting fritz at VIR with his yellow beast, I wish we could all hit a track together at some point (heheheh). I have most of my calandar for next season in place, we should post them to see if any places overlap?

Sure, anytime :-)

damian,

What times have you run at Mid-Ohio (Pro course)? I will be at Nationals running TTS and ST2. Are you planning on beating your previous best?

Do you have any good on board shots from Mid Ohio?

Thanks
Scott

Totally agree. I heard a rumor that they're considering Miller Motorsports Park in NV for the year after next. I'll make the tow to Ohio next year if schedule and budget allow but it would be nice to have something a little closer the next time 'round.

Edit: just realized how old that post was. lol

I think it's confirmed that nationals will be at Miller Motorsports park the next 2 years. It was frustrating traveling to Mid Ohio this year, fun track but my motor went on the first day due to a oil pump failure.

That's awesome about Miller. Can't wait to get out there next season.

Ohio's a long pull to lose your motor on the first day. That's gotta sting a little. Sorry to hear it!
