What he said. And race cars are not drift cars. There are many types of limited slip differentials, BTW.

"posi" or "Positraction" was just Chevrolet's marketing name for "limited slip differential". Just like other makes had Equa-Lok, Traction-Lok, Twin Spin, Sure-Grip, for a few examples (bonus points if you can ID who sold each of those!)

That's why it either cracks me up or irks me to see people ask about the posi in their Ford or Mazda or Dodge. It's not a Posi unless it's a 10-bolt or 12-bolt Chevy rear (because B-O-P and Cad all used DIFFERENT rearends from Chevy...!).

"Lockers" are diffs that actually lock the axles together. They work more like ratchets than differentials. These suck.

Isnt LSD generally better regardless because it simultaneously puts down the power evenly to the wheels. During hard turning doesnt it transfer a lil more of the power to the outter wheel to maintain grip?

I have a 3.9 LSD from my auto GXL, now i got a 4.1 open diff. Dont like the open diff at all, i was thinking of putting my S4 LSD back on. What differences can i see besides the difference in top end and acceleration i heard of.

Is it really that different?

As one of the few to have actually raced using a "locker" and a limited slip differential or LSD I prefer the locker. It does tend to understeer a bit but it can be tuned a bit. It is also very reliable and tends to work smoother the more it wears. The LSD is a bit more neutral(especially the clutch types) but the lock up is not 100 percent and it doesn't hook up and accelerate out of corners like the locker. It does not have the drive off the corner. the gear type LSD's I have tried seem to perform just like the locker but are nearly double the cost. I wish that there was a locker type diff for my RX7 that worked like the detroit locker I have in my late model stockcar. All this is academic since there are only a few options for the RX7. Positraction I believe is an advertising trademark of GM but it is a bit like Kleenex. everyone calls tissue paper Kleenex.

acyually these dont suck. they are built for a reason. i have one in my truck. they can suck if you are a moron and buy something that you dont need or know how to function with it properly.

plus i was merely offering a suggestion as to what he was thinking with his question. anywho...
