Question Fuel cell Question

On a road race cell I know they put in a fuel pickup in each corner. How does the fuel pump pick up fuel from the one thats submerged in fuel and not the one that is exposed when the fuel level is low? I would think that since the path of least resistance would be to suck air, then the pump would fail to pull fuel when one pickup is exposed to the air.

most fuel cells have only one pick up for the very reason you described. if the pick up is not in fuel the fuel pump will suck air. most road racers use a surge tank that can be built into the cell or added externally. the surge tank is small enough to be kept filled but large enough to keep the pick covered. check with an ATL or Fuel Safe dealer and they can order the correct setup.

Thanks, yea I know about the surge tank. I always see 2 outlets from the road race cells. I thought that meant there were 2 pickups.......

All fuel cell should have a vent(usually a 1" line or roll over valve) the other -6 or -8AN line maybe a return line. some of the the top plates have this for fuel injected cars and carbed cars for fuel return to the cell. check with the manufacturer.
